Thailand was facing China in the fifth match of the Women’s T2O Quadrangular series held in Hong Kong. After electing to bat first, Thailand didn’t capitalize on the toss advantage following a slow start.

Mengting Lui was the standout bowler for China as Thailand was restricted to 117 at the end of the 20 overs. Chasing a total of 118, China got to a horrendous start having lost two wickets in the first three overs. Thailand pacer Phannita Maya rattled China’s middle order as she claimed five wickets as China were bowled out for 8.

Thailand registered a massive 109 runs win over China and Phannita Maya was rewarded with the Player of the Match for her all-round performance.

Best Bowling Figures for Thailand in Women’s T20Is:

1) Phannita Maya: 5/3 vs China, 2024

Thailand all-rounder Phannita Maya recorded the best bowling figures for Thailand after scalping a fifer in the Women’s T20I Quadrangular series in 2024. China was chasing a total of 118 and Phannita Maya came into the attack in the fourth over with her first wicket coming in the form of Zi Mei, who trapped her in front of the stumps, followed by Mengting Liu, who was dismissed off the first ball in the form of an LBW. In the last ball of the over Xu Qian was dismissed for a duck. Her other two dismissals came after rattling the stumps of Jiaping Li in the sixth over and Yan Zuing, who was the fifth batter to be dismissed, which was also China’s last wicket as they were bowled with just eight runs on the board. Following this, Phannita Maya registered the best bowling figures for Thailand, which was also Maya’s first fifer in the T20I format as she finished with figures of 5/3, claiming the Player of the Match.

2) Chanida Sutthiruang – 5/4 v Indonesia, 2019

It was during Thailand’s T20 Smash in January 2019, that Chanida Sutthiruang claimed a fifer against Indonesia. Batting first, Thailand set a target of 126 and Sutthiruang came onto bowl the first over and provided a wicket in the first over, dismissing Yulia Anggraeni LBW. In the third over, she rattled the stumps of Aulia Avianty, and Annisa Sulistianingsih and Berlian Duma Pare too were dismissed as Chanida dismantled their stumps in the fifth and seventh over respectively to register a fifer as Indonesia was bowled out for 32 with Thailand winning the match by 93 runs. Chanida Sutthiruang finished with figures of 5/4 in four overs also claiming the Player of the Match.

3) Nattaya Boochatham – 5/5 (4.0) v Myanmar, 2023

Number three on the list is Nattaya Boochatham for her fifer against Myanmar in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier. After being put into bat first, Thailand scored 121, and off-spinner Boochatham ran through the batting order of Myanmar, also providing the first wicket as she dismissed Lin Lin Tun in the second over. In the fifth over, Theint Soe and May San were dismissed without scoring a run as Nattaya was dismissed after rattling their stumps. During the final over of the powerplay, she dismissed Khin Mayat with Zon Lin who was her final victim. Nattaya Boochatham finished with figures of 5/5 in four overs, including a maiden, also receiving the Player of the Match.

4) Thipatcha Putthawong – 5/8 (3.5) v Netherlands, 2023

It was in July 2023 during Thailand’s tour to the Netherlands, Putthawong scalped a fifer. Thailand elected to field first, and Putthawong’s first wicket came in the form of Frederique Overdijik in the twelfth over. Later in the eighteenth over, she was brought back into the attack, and Phebe Molkenber was dismissed in the second ball of the over and scalped two wickets to not only complete a fifer but also claim a hat-trick in her record-breaking spell. The left-arm bowler finished with figures of 5/8 in 3.5 overs as the Netherlands were bowled out for 75 with Thailand chasing the total. Putthawong was rewarded with the Player of the Match.

5) Wongpaka Liengprasert – 5/12 (4.0) v Sri Lanka, 2018

Wongpaka registered a fifer during the 2018 Women’s T20 Asia Cup against Sri Lanka in a historic triumph. Thailand elected to field first and Wongpaka’s first wicket was in the form of Harshita Samarawickrama, taking a catch of her own bowling for the wicket. Later on, she dismissed Nilakshika Silva in the twelfth over with skipper Shashikala Siriwardene being dismissed in the fourteenth over. She dismissed the well-settled Anushka Sanjeevani in the eighteenth over for 32, which was followed by a golden duck to Sugandika Kumari. Wongpaka finished with figures of 5/12 as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 105 with Thailand securing a win. Wongpaka claimed the Player of the Match for her exceptional performance.
