Mariko Hill rewrites her career-best with 66-ball 106 against China

Hong Kong is currently hosting the Women’s T20I Quadrangular series involving Namibia, Thailand and China with the series getting underway on December 4, today. Hong Kong secured a dominating 108-run victory over China.

After being put into bat first, Hong Kong put up a monumental score of 177 against China, on the back of Mariko Hill’s record-breaking century, 106 off 66 balls. Defending a total of 178, Hong-Kong got off to a dream start as they scalped four wickets inside the powerplay. China was never in the chase as they lost wickets at regular wickets and eventually, they were bundled for 69. Hong Kong used seven bowlers throughout the innings with each of them claiming a wicket each. Mariko Hill claimed the Player of the Match for her knock of 106, which is the highest individual T20I score for Hong Kong.

Highest individual scores for Hong Kong women:

1) Mariko Hill – 106 (66) vs China

The Hong Kong opener rewrote her record of the highest individual T20I score scoring 106 in the opening match of the ongoing Women’s T20I Quadrangular series. The right-handed batter also previously held the record for the highest T20I score for Hong Kong but has surpassed it. Hong Kong were put into bat first but found themselves in trouble after losing their second wicket with 19 on the board. But it was Mariko Hill at the other end who stood up. Hill was involved in a 158-run stand for the third wicket alongside Kary Chan. She smashed 106 off 66 balls which involved 14 boundaries & four sixes striking at 160. Later on, Hill was rewarded with the Player of the Match as Hong Kong registered a dominating 108-run victory over China.

2) Mariko Hill – 100* (65) vs Maldives

It was during the Asian Cricket Council Women’s Premiere Cup in February 2024, when Mariko Hill etched her name into the history books as she became the first Hong Kong batter to score a century in the T20 format. After electing to bat first against Maldives, Hill was involved in a 176-run stand for the first wicket with Kary Chan. Mariko remained unbeaten throughout her innings scoring 100 off 65 balls which included 12 boundaries and a six playing a vital role in Hong Kong scoring a record-breaking 222 against Maldives.

3) Kary Chan – 87 (47) vs Maldives

Number three in the list is captain Kary Chan who scored 87 against the Maldives during the Asian Cricket Council Women’s Premiere Cup in February 2024. Opening the innings, Kary struck 87 runs being involved in a 176-run stand alongside Mariko Hill. The left-handed batter smashed 14 boundaries throughout her innings to help Hong Kong reach a mountain of a total of 222. Later on, she claimed two wickets with the ball and claimed the Player of the Match for her exceptional performance.

4) Natasha Miles – 86* (70) vs Japan

Natasha Miles’ 86 is fourth in the list of highest scores for Hong Kong. It was during the women’s East Asia Cup, Natasha smashed 86* against Japan. The right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 86 off 70 balls which included 10 boundaries and one six. Her innings helped Hong Kong to put up a target of 143 with her runs proving valuable in a three-run win. Natasha Miles claimed the Player of the Match.

5) Mariko Hill – 76 (50) vs United Arab Emirates

During the Women’s Quadrangular T20 series in Namibia in April 2023, Mariko scored 76 against the UAE. Hong Kong was chasing a total of 140 and were in trouble at a stage losing their fourth wicket with only 16 on the board, but it was Mariko Hill who anchored the innings. The right-handed batter smashed 6 boundaries and three sixes in her innings as Mariko’s 76 helped Hong Kong chase down the total. For her match-winning knock, Mariko Hill was rewarded with the Player of the Match.
