The South African women’s team led by skipper Laura Wolvaardt is currently hosting England led by skipper Heather Knight for an all-format series that includes a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series and a one-off Test match at the Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein from 15th December 2024.
The home side, South Africa suffered a humiliating whitewash in the recently concluded three-match T20I series. In a minor setback for the visitors, England, ahead of the ODI series from 4th December 2024, the young 19-year-old all-rounder Freya Kemp will return to England and will take no further part in the ongoing all-format series against South Africa.
“The decision has been made to manage her workload and help her prepare for the upcoming Ashes series in Australia,” the statement released from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) read. The decision to send Freya Kemp back to England has been taken keeping in mind the highly anticipated Women’s Ashes from January, next year.
In her recent outing in the T20I series against South Africa, Freya Kemp picked up a couple of wickets in three innings with the ball at an economy of 8.28. Her return to England from the middle of the series will also mean that she’ll have to wait a little longer for her Test debut. She received her maiden call-up to England’s Test squad for their tour to South Africa.
The ongoing multi-format series will conclude on 18th December 2024. It will be followed by the potentially high-octane Women’s Ashes down under. The Women’s Ashes all-format series will include a three-match ODI series followed by a three-match T20I series and a one-off day-night Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium. The series will get underway on 12th January 2025 (Sunday) and conclude on 2nd February 2025 (Sunday).
