Danni Wyatt-Hodge’s Fifty and Charlie Dean’s 3-fer help England whitewash T20I series against South Africa

Fifties from Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (78 off 45 balls) and Nat Sciver Brunt (67 off 43 balls) followed by a Sarah Glenn special (4-0-20-4) with the ball were instrumental in England’s series clinching victory (by 36 runs) in the 2nd T20I.

Both sides made some changes to their side in the 3rd and final game of the T20I series at the SuperSport Park, Centurion. Lauren Bell replaced Sarah Glenn in the starting 11 for the visitors, England, while Anneke Bosch replaced skipper Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus replaced Tazmin Brits and Tumi Sekhukhune replaced Nonkululeko Mlaba in the playing XI for South Africa.

Charlie Dean and Lauren Filer show with the ball wraps the home side for 124

The Proteas got off to a horrible start, losing half their side inside the first 8 overs of their innings, including the wicket of their stand-in skipper Chloe Tryon after the England skipper Heather Knight won the toss and opted to field first. Nadine de Klerk joined Nondumiso Shangase at the crease and the duo stitched a resilient 52-run 6th wicket partnership to take their side closer to the 100-run mark. The pair were accountable for a significant amount of around 42% of the team’s total.

Freya Kemp picked up the wicket of Nondumiso Shangase (31 off 35 balls) to provide the much-needed 6th breakthrough for England. South Africa was eventually bundled out for 124 in their quota of 20 overs. Annerie Dercksen (19 off 12 balls), Sune Luus (21 off 17 balls), Nadine de Klerk (19 off 22 balls), and Eliz-Mari Marx (12 off 10 balls) were instrumental in taking their total past the three-figure mark. Charlie Dean (4-0-26-3), Lauren Bell (4-0-24-2), and Sophie Ecclestone (4-0-16-1) were the bowlers who significantly impacted the game with the ball for the visitors, England.

Top-order-batters power England to a clean sweep series win

Openers Danielle Wyatt-Hodge and Maia Bouchier got their side off to a flyer with a 56-run opening stand, scoring at around 10-runs an over. Ayanda Hlubi sent Maia Bouchier (35 off 21 balls) back to the pavilion to provide the first breakthrough for the home side in the powerplay.

Sophie Dunkley (24* off 17 balls) joined Danielle Wyatt-Hodge (53* off 31 balls) at the crease and the pair powered the visitors home with an unbeaten 72-run 2nd wicket partnership. Courtesy of a power packed performance with the bat, England sealed the game with 9 wickets in hand and 51 balls to spare, as they complete a thrashing whitewash in the T20I series against South Africa. Ayanda Hlubi (2-0-19-1), was the lone wicket-taker for the home side. Nondumiso Shangase (2-0-14-0), Nadine de Klerk (2-0-18-0), were the others who shone with the ball for South Africa.

Charlie Dean was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant match-winning spell of 4-0-26-3. Nat Sciver-Brunt was awarded the Player of the Series for scoring 126 runs in a couple of innings and she also picked up one wicket with the ball in the series.
