England’s Paige Scholfield has withdrawn her name from the English T20I squad for the South Africa tour. The batting all-rounder suffered an ankle injury during training on November 19, Tuesday ahead of the three-match T20I series against South Africa. Following the injury, Scholfield went through a further assessment before withdrawing her name from the squad.
The England Cricket Board confirmed her injury and return to the United Kingdom for rehabilitation on the social media platform ‘X’ formerly known as Twitter. “Paige Scholfield has been withdrawn from the England Women T20 squad to tour South Africa after suffering an ankle injury,” their post read.
Paige Scholfield recently made her T20I debut in September 2024 against Ireland. The batting all-rounder was a surprise pick in the English squad ahead of Alice Capsey in the T20I squad, but it was the impressive season in ‘The Hundred’ representing Oval Invincibles in which she scored 190 runs in eight innings which led to her ODI & T20I debut during the Ireland tour.
Scholfield was one of the two major changes the English side made to their T20I squad with Alice Capsey being overlooked initially, now recalled with multiple minor injuries in the squad.
Scholfield also enjoyed the domestic season as fifth-highest run-scorer in the 2024 Charlotte Edwards Cup T20 cup scoring 259 runs at an average of 43.16 striking at 140.00.
England’s tour to South Africa will see them playing three T20Is followed by three one-day matches and the tour concluding with a one-off Test.
