Following a tri-nation series in its inaugural edition, the Nordic Women’s T20 Cup grew to a 5-team event last year, and the forthcoming 3rd edition, scheduled for the 10th and 11th of August 2024, will again feature 5 teams, but with a different mix. From an overview of its history and format to broadcasting details, squads, and the schedule, here’s everything you need to know about the Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) series.
History:
In the inaugural edition of the Nordic Cup in 2022, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark competed. While Denmark lost all three of their matches and Norway secured just one win out of five, hosts Sweden dominated the series with a perfect record of five consecutive wins.
The 2023 season saw the addition of Finland XI and Estonia to the competition. Sweden continued their winning streak from the previous year, securing the championship with another flawless performance of five straight wins. Finland finished as runners-up with two wins from five matches, Denmark and Norway each won one game (Denmark from five and Norway from six), and Estonia, with two defeats from three games and one abandoned match, failed to secure a win. It should be noted that Finland fielded a strong team, hence their matches did not have T20I status.
In the 2024 season of the Nordic Cup, two-time champions Sweden will not be participating. Instead, hosts Norway, Denmark, Estonia, and Finland will be joined by Guernsey. The season will kick off with Finland making their Women’s T20I debut against Denmark in the opening match.
Format:
The tournament will follow a round-robin format, where each team will face every other team once. The team with the highest standings at the end of the event, featuring five teams, will be crowned the champion.
