The 2022/23 – 2025 ICC Women’s Championship is the third edition of the ICC Women’s Championship, a competitive One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament involving ten teams. These teams are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. The championship serves as a qualification pathway for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
Each participating team will compete in eight series of three-match ODIs, with four series scheduled to be played at home venues and the remaining four series played away from home.
India, being the host of the World Cup next year, directly qualified while Australia has also qualified.
India sealed the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa with a 3-0 clean sweep at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. This ODI series is part of a multi-format series, which is being played from June 16 to July 9.
Coming into the series, South Africa needed to win 2 matches to earn a direct qualification. As of 23rd June 2024, after the conclusion of the 3rd ODI between India and South Africa, which India won by 6 wickets, the standings are as follows:
Currently, Australia dominates with 13 wins out of 18 matches, earning them 28 points and a formidable net run rate of +2.002. Next on the table is England, with 11 wins, resulting in 24 points and a commendable net run rate of +1.273. Third is South Africa, with 11 wins and earning 23 points. India is at fourth with 10 wins and with 21 points. At fifth, Sri Lanka managed to secure 8 victories out of 21 matches, gaining 20 points. New Zealand too managed to secure 8 victories, earning 18 points, while Pakistan, struggling with 8 wins out of 24 matches, has earned 17 points. West Indies, Bangladesh and Ireland faced mixed outcomes with 6,4, and 0 wins respectively. West Indies achieved 14 points, while Bangladesh garnered 13 points. Ireland, yet to secure a win, stands at the bottom with 2 points.
Amidst diverse team performances, the competition remains dynamic as teams vie for qualification to the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, striving to solidify their standings.
By the conclusion of the 2022/23 – 2025 ICC Women’s Championship, the top five teams, alongside host nation India, will secure direct qualification to the World Cup. The remaining four teams will advance to a Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament.
