Under-19 Tri-Series: Australia Bounces Back in One Day Format, England Dominates T20

Australia’s disappointing show knocks them out of the Under-19 Tri-series. The Sri Lankan under-19 women’s team led by skipper Manudi Nanayakkara were hosting England and Australia for a Tri-series that included the T20 format as well as the One Day format.

Australia ended up on the losing side in the first couple of matches against Sri Lanka and England. However, Australia bounced back and clinched the 4th game of the series by 7 wickets against Sri Lanka. However, they ended up on the losing side in the 5th game of the series against England by seven wickets to end their campaign in the T20I version of the tri-series on a disappointing note.

The One Day leg of the tri-series commenced on 5th April 2024 and the Australian women’s under-19 team led by skipper Amy Smith bounced back and won the One Day version of the tri-series by winning both their games against Sri Lanka by 88 runs and their game against England by two wickets and 27 balls to spare. They finished at the top of the points table with four points from two games.

England women’s under-19 team who clinched the T20 series finishing at the top of the points table with six points from four games that included their only defeat came against Sri Lanka when they ended up on the losing side by six runs in the 3rd match of the series on 30th March 2024. England ended up on the bottom of the points table in the One Day series as they lost both their games in the One Day leg of the series. The 17-year-old batting all-rounder from England was the leading run-scorer of the T20 series with 143 runs at an impressive strike rate of 144.44 and an average of 35.75 in four innings.

Ava Lee from England was the leading wicket-taker of the T20 series with eight wickets to her name at a strike rate of 7.50 and an average of 7.62 in three innings. The Australian all-rounder Lucy Hamilton was the leading run-scorer of the One Day series with 101 runs to her name in a couple of innings. Chamodi Praboda from Sri Lanka was the leading wicket-taker of the One Day series with eight wickets from a couple of innings with an average of 9.50, strike rate of 14.50 and an exceptional economy of 3.93 in the recently concluded under-19 One Day series.
