India’s home series against Australia is now only a sleep away and strangely enough pre-series cricketing banters haven’t made the headlines, rather the respectful sack of former India head coach, Ramesh Powar has grabbed the eyeballs and interest of the public.
As reported earlier, it’s understood that skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, was not happy with Ramesh Powar’s coaching style and she had requested the national selectors and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Mr. Jay Shah to remove him from the head coach’s position after the Asia Cup.
Skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur when addressing the media in the series lead-up on 8th December, the question around Ramesh Powar’s ouster made it to the media conference as well.
A reporter questioned Harmanpreet Kaur, “Just a few days out from the start of the series, India Women’s head coach Ramesh Powar was transferred to the National Cricket Academy (NCA). According to some reports, differences between you and him led to his ouster as head coach. What would you say about that? Would you like to make clear?
Harmanpreet Kaur, in as many words, cleared the speculations around the matter by stating, “Well, nothing of that kind. I have always enjoyed working with Ramesh sir whenever I have had the opportunity. As a team, we have improved a lot (under him). We have learned a lot from him. It’s a BCCI decision that he has moved to the NCA now, where he will work as the spin coach. Whenever we will be at the NCA, sir is always available.
“Hrishi sir is here with us. We had a very good experience with him when we were in Sri Lanka. Whenever we were at the NCA, he was always available. Hrishi sir brings in a lot of experience for the team and we’re only looking forward how to take this team ahead. I think we are in right hands. Whatever decision the BCCI is taking, we’re fully okay with that.”
Harmanpreet Kaur on record has quickly cleared the air around the matter as speculations also claimed the lack of communication with the players, growing differences with the senior players, taking decisions without the consent of the captain, and bad rapport with selectors turned out to be a few key reasons that caused Ramesh Powar ouster.

It also was understood that not just skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, there were more senior players too who request the change, and the top board officials also impacted in Ramesh Powar’s ouster as they felt a change was necessary having sat through a few meetings with Ramesh Powar themselves and it was then that BCCI ‘respectfully sacked’ Ramesh Powar by announcing his switch to men’s cricket.
If Harmanpreet Kaur’s final word is to be taken on the coaching chaos, it’s the BCCI’s decision, and the team is fully okay with it.
