PCB Challengers defeat PCB Blasters to Win Pakistan Women’s One Day Cup 2021

Ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup 2022, the Pakistan Cricket board organized the Women’s One Day Cup 2021 from 9th to 21st September at the National Stadium and Oval Academy Ground in Karachi which marked the start of the domestic season in the country.

The Cup was played between four teams- PCB Dynamites, PCB Blasters, PCB Challengers, and PCB Strikers with 12 league matches followed by the finals and the match for the 3rd position.

It was seen as an exposure for the players to practice before the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. PCB Challengers won the title by defeating PCB Blasters in the Finals and the third position went to PCB Strikers, finishing fourth, PCB Dynamites weren’t able to win a single match of the tournament despite an extraordinary performance with the bat by their captain Aliya Riaz who shared the Player of the Tournament award with Nida Dar of PCB Blasters who finished as the highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets.

In her 7 innings, Riaz scored an unbeaten 57 runs in the first, 90 in the second match, 29 in third, 72 with 1 wicket in the fourth, her highest of the tournament, 101 in the fifth game, ending up with 6 and 9 in the last two, making a total of 364 runs and Nida took 2 wickets with 2 maidens in the first, 2 in the second match, 3 wickets haul in the third that too with 4 maidens in her 8 over spell, the same number of maidens in her four-match taking 2 wickets, again a 3 wicket haul with a maiden in the fifth one followed by an unbeaten 93 in the six-game with 1 wicket and ending the tournament with 1 wicket in the Finals and thus, finishing with 14 wickets. Anoosha Nasir of PCB Challengers was adjudged as the Emerging Player of the tournament.

Thus, Pakistan Women’s preparation is in full swing ahead of the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 and they would be looking forward to bettering their performance from the last editions of the tournament.
