Smriti Mandhana Credits ICC Award and ICC Planning For Age Group Women’s World Cup

Indian start cricketer Smriti Mandhana is in a prolific form. She has had a brilliant year of breaking and making records. Last year she won the Cricketer of the Year award for Women at ICC awards. Mandhana believes the award has a god impact on her. She revealed to The Cricket Monthly, “That award had a huge impact on me because till the end of the year, during the Big Bash, my body was feeling very fatigued. If you look back, for one and a half years I have not got a break. So from about 21 to 25-26 December, I had got into a kind of zone where I was telling myself, ‘I need rest’.”

She added how she had to push herself for betterment which was unusual and this news worked as magic. “You have to get better. You can’t be stagnant. That news motivated me, and the next day I was back to normal: had breakfast, back to practice, wanting to do gym, wanting to do conditioning.”

  1. IPL Is The Next Step For The Game- Alyssa Healey

Last Year BCCI organized the first IPL women’s match. It was an exhibition match and Alyssa Healy was one of the Australians involved in the same. The Board of Control for Cricket in India hasn’t announced anything of such happening this year but Healy is keen to be part again.

Healey was asked if she would be interested to visit India for an IPL match she was excited, “One hundred per cent. It would be fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed that experience, heading over there for a few days and playing in that exhibition game.

She also added how IPL can be the next big thing for the women’s T20 game.“It’s probably the next step for the women’s game in the T20 format, so if that gets up and running that’s really exciting. She added, “I’m sure a lot of the girls would be willing to stick their hand up for it.”

  1. ICC Planning For Age Group Women’s World Cup

The International Cricket Council announced plans for an age group Women’s World Cup to provide opportunity to more girls willing to play the game around globe. ICC also constituted a new Women’s Cricket Committee, to be chaired by former England captain Clare Connor.

As part of the global body’s commitment to accelerating the growth of the women’s game, this announcement was made after the conclusion of ICC board meeting in Dubai. An official statement by ICC read, “There were two significant decisions taken. The first, from the Chief Executives’ Committee, is around the introduction of an age group Cricket World Cup for girls to create more opportunities for young women around the globe to play the game. The ICC will develop a plan for the introduction of this event during the current commercial cycle.”

The new committee will focus on the greater strategic portion for the betterment of the format. It will oversee the plan for awareness of the game and towards more engagement by promoting opportunities for women around the world.
