Cricket is finally on its’ way back for Pakistan Women as it was earlier announced by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that training camp will resume from the 8th of October. To facilitate and secure this process, a high-performance camp is being set up in Karachi. A senior member of the Pakistani outfit, Javeria Khan, expressed her excitement in an interview with Geo Super.
The 32-year old in a chat with Geo Super said, “We all are excited to be back for camp after seven months and are eagerly awaiting for activities to resume so that we can rediscover our rhythm. It was very frustrating to stay away from cricket. I am glad that we are finally returning.”
She went on to add, “Regrouping after seven or eight months, we all are looking forward. My goal is to regain my batting form and score as much as possible.”
The opening batsman has enjoyed a long career at the biggest stage and is one among a select group of women to have made 100 appearances in both the ODI and T20I format. Khan has over 4500 runs in her 12-year long career, with 28 wickets on top of it.

Even though Khan is a modern-day legend in Pakistan cricket, resuming cricket activities after a long pause can inconvenience the best players. However, she maintains her positive perspective towards life in these troubling times.
“At times during lockdown, it became frustrating but there was hope to return to the game we all love. The lockdown has taught me that there is nothing permanent in life. Your career is very short so just enjoy whatever you have.”
To ensure all the security protocols are strictly adhered to, a bio-secure bubble will be set up for the players at Karachi. Bio-secure environments have become the new normal in the cricketing world now to maintain the highest standard of safety. They have proved to be very effective since its debut in West Indies’ tour of England.
Javeria Khan said, “The SOPs and the bio-secure bubble aren’t a distraction. There is nothing more distracting than not being able to play cricket. We are all ready to live with this bio-secure bubble because it is important for our health.” She added, “There’s a bio-secure environment during men’s National T20 Cup and there will be one for our camp when it starts in Karachi next week. I think this will make us better prepared for our future cricket tournaments.”
Various events across the sporting world have been postponed or canceled due to the raging COVID-19 pandemic, with the men’s T20 World Cup getting postponed, among the others. However, Khan believes this might just be a blessing in disguise.
“The time span that we all got will provide us an opportunity to better prepare ourselves. If these tournaments were held as per schedule then it would’ve been difficult for many teams as they were not prepared due to the pandemic,” she said.
