Pandemic has posed a threat to humanity. A threat that was unprecedented, unheard, and unseen. Challenges and uncertainties have been close to humanity. Nonetheless, humans have stood up each time. They have learned that cooperation, and not a competition, is the way to go.
Millions of people have stood up against coronavirus. Frontline health care workers and policing officials have risen up to the task. In England, national health service or the NHS has been the frontrunner. Female Cricket reported earlier that many cricketing professionals have signed up as volunteers. Another update comes from England, this a time a family is setting benchmarks for the society to follow.
Amna Rafiq and her family have come together to provide food for the NHS workers. The family has devised a new food delivery service which shall primarily focus on catering to workers fighting the pandemic first-hand. Head of Rafiq family is Azeem Rafiq who was a bowler for Yorkshire Country Cricket Club. He along with his family members have started “Desi Food”. As the name tells, “Desi” reflects South Asian touch on their new venture.
The cuisine will be South Asian and healthcare workers at Barnsley Hospital shall benefit from the same. Rafiq’s had applied for assisting the workers as volunteers in the NHS but their application fetches no result. They weren’t giving up and soon they came up with the idea of Desi Food. They already had chances of cooking for the Barnsley Cricket Club. Moreover, the plan has been discussed with the hospice. There shall be a takeaway for locals and all the earnings shall go in serving the healthcare workers.
Amna, Community Manager at Yorkshire County, says that their idea was liked by the hospice. Moreover, they plan to have a set menu for locals. It shall include starters, naan, curry, and bread. The delivery part relies on Azeem who shall follow norms regarding social distancing and provide safe food. The family has been initiating such philanthropic tasks in the past and delivered joys to couples recently.
It is heartening to see people stepping out of their comfortable shells and assisting workers who have held their lives in hands to see people return to their normal lives. Small steps like these may not account to fancy donations or star-studded highlights but these steps instill hopes in heart of people. With humanity flourishing out of such gestures, it is no wrong to say that we shall overcome this too.
