Erin Burns grabs a stunning flying catch to light up Women’s CPL 2024 Opener

In the opening match of the third edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL), the defending champions Barbados Royals faced off against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Hayley Matthews’ Royals elected to field first and on a wicket that appeared slow, the Guyana batters struggled to score runs and were restricted to a total of 118/9, with Stafanie Taylor being the top scorer with 38. Aaliya Alleyne was the pick of the bowlers for the Royals, finishing with figures of 3/21 (4).

Chasing a target of 119, the Royals’ openers got off to a cautious start, however, in-form Shabnim Ismail struck early and courtesy of a stunning grab from Erin Burns’ that Ismail had Georgia Redmayne. It was on the fifth ball of the fifth over, Shabnim Ismail bowled a fullish delivery that moved away from the batter. Georgia Redmayne cut the ball towards the point region with tremendous speed, and it was heading towards the boundary, but Erin Burns took a flying catch to her left to complete the wicket.

Fans on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) reacted to Erin Burns’ catch, noting that she is often known for grabbing such stunners. The Australian all-rounder reminded many fans of Yuvraj Singh, who was known for taking catches at point. Many fans described it as just another routine moment for Erin Burns and were left speechless following her brilliant catch.
