Meg Lanning, the 33-year-old batting stalwart, and cricket great, reminded the world of her class once again with a breathtaking century, her T20 career-best score of 135 off just 74 balls, in the ongoing 11th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).

Representing the Melbourne Stars, Lanning’s stunning knock at the North Sydney Oval against Ashleigh Gardner’s Sydney Sixers not only powered her side to a commanding total of 219/4 but also propelled her to the top of the run-scoring charts this season. Her innings, studded with 22 boundaries and four sixes, will be remembered as one of the finest ever in tournament history.
Sydney Sixers skipper Ashleigh Gardner opted to field first after winning the toss, a decision that quickly backfired as Meg Lanning, opening alongside Rhys McKenna, took control of proceedings from the word go. Timing the ball sweetly and exploiting every scoring opportunity, she dissected the Sixers’ bowling attack with precision and authority.
Her knock of 135, the highest individual score of her WBBL career, was not just about numbers; it was a display of composure, experience, and relentless intent. The Melbourne Stars bat deep, but Lanning ensured she shouldered the innings, guiding the side to a formidable 219/4 in their 20 overs.
Lanning’s form in this WBBL season has been exceptional, underlining why she is still one of the most consistent batters in women’s T20 cricket. With 288 runs in just four innings at a staggering average of 96 and a strike rate of 163.63, she currently leads the run charts of the tournament.
Her tally includes two half-centuries and a century, all delivered in signature Lanning style, authoritative, elegant, and match-defining. For a side placed sixth on the table with 3 points from 3 games, her contributions have been vital in keeping the Stars in contention for the playoffs.
Just a few matches before her career-best innings, Lanning celebrated another milestone, her 100th appearance in the WBBL on 14th November 2025, against the Perth Scorchers. In perfect tribute to the occasion, she struck a commanding 90 not out off 55 balls, laced with 10 boundaries and 3 sixes.
That knock set up Melbourne Stars’ total of 173/4 before rain intervened, reducing the Scorchers’ chase to nine overs. The Stars bowlers held their nerve, restricting Perth to 78/8, sealing a 16-run win via the DLS method. Once again, Lanning’s blend of aggression and game awareness earned her the Player of the Match title.
She switched to the Perth Scorchers in 2018 and moved back to the Melbourne Stars in the year 2020.
With 3,455 runs overall in 102 matches, Meg Lanning’s WBBL record now sits among the all-time greats. Her career strike rate of 122.90 and average of 40.64, along with 33 half-centuries and two centuries, underline her incredible consistency and match-winning capabilities.
As Melbourne Stars eye a surge up the WBBL 11 points table, Meg Lanning’s blistering form could well be the defining factor of their campaign, a testament to her enduring class, leadership, and hunger to perform on the biggest stages.
