Hobart Hurricanes opener Lizelle Lee has rewritten Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) history by becoming the first and only player to score consecutive centuries in the league. Following her brilliant unbeaten 150 against the Perth Scorchers, Lee struck again with a remarkable 103 off 59 balls against the Adelaide Strikers in the 25th match of the season. Watch below to catch the highlights of her powerful knock against the Strikers.
Coming into the match against Strikers, Lee had scored an extraordinary 150* (75) at the Sydney Cricket Ground against the Scorchers and was a masterclass in power-hitting and record-breaking. In addition to recording the highest individual score in WBBL history, Lee smashed 12 sixes—the most in a single WBBL innings. Her breathtaking innings included 12 boundaries and 12 sixes, setting the tone for her follow-up century in the very next match.
The Hurricanes, put in to bat first against the Strikers, were off to a shaky start, losing English opener Danni Wyatt in the first over with only three runs on the board. However, it quickly turned into a Lizelle Lee show as she anchored a stunning 133-run partnership with Nicola Carey.
Lee’s aggressive stroke play kept the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace; she struck 13 boundaries and four sixes throughout her innings, ultimately reaching her fifth WBBL century—the joint-highest number of hundreds in the league, a record she now shares with Alyssa Healy. Her feat makes her only the second player in women’s T20 cricket to achieve back-to-back hundreds. Lee’s outstanding innings helped the Hurricanes post a commanding total of 191, giving her team a strong foundation.
With this century, Lee has surged to the top of the run-scorer charts for this season, earning the golden bat as the tournament’s leading scorer. She now has 324 runs in just seven matches, including two centuries that have set new records for the season. Lee’s sensational form has not only propelled the Hurricanes in the competition but has also underscored her reputation as one of the most powerful and consistent batters in the T20 format.
