Watch Video: Scotland’s Sarah Bryce shines bright with maiden WBBL fifty

In a gripping showdown at the North Sydney Oval, Sarah Bryce’s brilliant batting performance nearly led the Sydney Sixers to victory in the fifth match of the Women’s Big Bash League’s (WBBL’s) tenth edition. Although the Sixers ultimately fell just 11 runs short against the Adelaide Strikers, Bryce’s innings was a standout, marking her as the first Scottish player to register a fifty in the WBBL. After the Sixers chose to bowl, their attack delivered with precision. Lauren Cheatle (3 for 35), Ashleigh Gardner (4 for 32), and Ellyse Perry (2 for 21) collectively limited the Strikers to 171, giving their team a fighting chance.

In reply, the Sixers suffered an early blow, with Hollie Armitage dismissed with only six runs on the board. Bryce then joined skipper Perry at the crease and took charge, compiling a composed 62 off 44 balls, which included seven stylish boundaries—five fours and two sixes. Bryce’s confident stroke play and calmness under pressure kept the Sixers on track, and her partnership of 80 runs with Perry put the team within reach of their target.

However, after Bryce’s dismissal, the Sixers’ momentum unraveled. The team slipped from a solid 140/4 to 158/9, narrowly missing out on a win.
