Australia led by stand-in skipper Hasrat Gill held their nerve to clinch a low-scoring, edge-of-the-seat, thriller against Sri Lanka led by skipper Manudi Nanayakkara by four runs in the 5th match of the Tri-series at the Bill Pippen Oval.

New Zealand led by skipper Tash Wakelin were all set to face Sri Lanka in the 6th match of the Tri-series at the Bill Pippen Oval, Gold Coast, Queensland. Sri Lankan skipper Manudi Nanayakkara won the toss and opted to bat first. Sri Lanka got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Pramudi Methsara in the 2nd over of the innings with Louisa Kotkamp providing the first breakthrough for New Zealand.

Vimoksha Balasuriya joined Sanjana Kavindi at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 30-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to lead some sort of recovery for their side. Anika Todd picked up the wicket of Vimoksha Balasuriya to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Sri Lanka lost a couple of wickets in quick succession to bring New Zealand firmly back into the contest.

Dahami Sanethma joined skipper Manudi Nanayakkara at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 59-run partnership for the 5th wicket to take their side close to the 100-run mark. Skipper Tash Wakelin picked up the wicket of Dahami Sanethma to provide the much-needed 5th breakthrough for New Zealand. Sri Lanka eventually ended up with a total of 110/9 in their quota of overs. Skipper Manudi Nanayakkara (41 off 35 balls), Vimoksha Balasuriya (24 off 22 balls), and Dahami Sanethma (18 off 23 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Sri Lanka.

Kate Irwin (4-0-13-3), Anika Todd (4-0-22-3), skipper Tash Wakelin (4-0-21-1), and Louisa Kotkamp (4-0-28-1) were the top performers with the ball for New Zealand. Chasing a target of 111, the New Zealand openers Eve Wolland and Emma MacLeod got their side off to a cautious start with a 19-run opening partnership. Chamodi Praboda cleaned up Emma MacLeod to provide the 1st breakthrough for Sri Lanka.

Isobel Sharp joined Eve Wolland at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 21-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side close to the 50-run mark. Hiruni Hansika picked up the wicket of Eve Wolland to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. New Zealand suffered a collapse as they lost their next four wickets for just 37 runs. The junior White Ferns were eventually restricted to 103/6 in their quota of overs. As a result, falling short of the target by 7 runs. The unbeaten 26-run 7th wicket partnership between Anika Todd and Darcy Rose Prasad took their side past the 100-run mark.

Eve Wolland (23 off 25 balls), Isobel Sharp (22 off 21 balls), and Darcy Rose Prasad (18* off 18 balls) were the top performers with the bat for New Zealand. Chamodi Praboda (4-0-12-2), Pramudi Methsara (4-0-15-2), Hiruni Hansika (4-0-20-1), and Asheni Thalagune (4-0-30-1), were the top performers with the ball for Sri Lanka.
