The under-19 women’s teams of Australia and New Zealand will go head-to-head in the tri-series opener, which also features Sri Lanka. The game is scheduled for 9:00 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on the 19th of September 2024 at the Alan Pettigrew Oval in Brisbane.
Squads:
Australia U19 – Bonnie Berry, Caoimhe Bray, Ella Briscoe, Maggie Clark, Samara Dulvin, Lucy Finn, Hasrat Gill, Lucy Hamilton, Amy Hunter, Eleanor Larosa, Ines McKeon, Ribhya Syan, Tegan Williamson, Elizabeth Worthley, Hayley Zauch
New Zealand U19 – Elizabeth Buchanan, Kate Chandler, Sophie Court, Abigail Hotton, Kate Irwin, Rishika Jaswal, Louisa Kotkamp, Emma McLeod, Darcy-Rose Prasad, Izzy Sharp, Anika Todd, Abby Treder, Tash Wakelin, Hannah Wallace, Eve Wolland
Players to watch out:
Eleanor Larosa
The 18-year-old all-rounder made a promising debut in Australia’s premier domestic competition earlier this year. Eleanor was then roped in for an U19 Tri-Series in Sri Lanka, featuring the hosts and England, where in the T20 games she registered scores of 44*, 41*, and 3, while also taking two wickets. She can be counted on for the goods.
Maggie Clark
The 17-year-old pacer was the leading wicket-taker at the 2023 U19 Women’s World Cup and continued to make her mark in the tri-series in Sri Lanka earlier this year. Maggie followed up her expensive returns of 0/17 (2) from the T20 opener with figures of 2/18 (3) and 1/25 (3). She is a promising talent and can be relied upon for breakthroughs.
Emma McLeod
The 18-year-old top-order batter in the 2023 U19 Women’s World Cup amassed 93 runs from 3 innings, at an average of 31.00 and a strike rate of 150.00. Emma, in the senior women’s domestic competition, managed a few runs last season and, in her only T20 outing, scored 23 runs. It’ll be hoped she finds her feet early in this series.
Anika Todd
The teen all-rounder earlier this year in the Women’s T20 Pacific Cup impressed with both bat and ball against strong opposition, contributing scores of 25*, 21, 15, and 10, while with the ball, she produced figures of 2/16, 0/21, and 1/9. Across competitions, Anika has made her mark, and it will be worth tracking her progress in this tri-series.
Pitch:
The 22-yard strip at the Alan Pettigrew Oval is known to favor batters, with the average score at the venue in the 140s. However, the pitch is well-balanced, offering enough support to both spinners and pacers.
Weather:
It will be a pleasant day for cricket in Brisbane, with no expected rain interruptions and clear sunny skies. The temperature is forecasted to hover around 28°C, with light winds and a humidity of 51%.
