Kathryn Bryce Hits Unbeaten 54 as Scotland Women Beat Bangladesh

Scotland Women produced a clinical all-round display to register an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh Women in the second match of the Scotland Women’s T20I Tri-Series 2026 at Edinburgh. After restricting Bangladesh to a manageable total through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, Scotland’s top order made light work of the chase, reaching the target with 26 balls to spare. The victory was built on crucial partnerships, impactful contributions from both batters and bowlers, and a match-defining unbeaten half-century from captain Kathryn Bryce.

Asked to bat first, Bangladesh Women began cautiously but lost an early wicket when Juairiya Ferdous was dismissed for 12. Before her departure, she and Dilara Akter had added 16 runs for the opening wicket, providing a steady start. Scotland struck again shortly afterward when Dilara fell for 11, leaving Bangladesh at 26/2. The pressure increased further when Sharmin Akhter was run out for 10 after contributing to a 20-run partnership with captain Nigar Sultana Joty, reducing Bangladesh to 46/3 in the ninth over.

At that stage, Bangladesh needed a substantial partnership, and it came through Nigar Sultana and Sobhana Mostary. The pair stitched together a valuable 42-run stand for the fourth wicket, stabilizing the innings and taking the score to 88. Sobhana played positively for her 22 off 22 balls, striking two boundaries before being dismissed by Abtaha Maqsood. Nigar continued to anchor the innings and found another aggressive partner in Shorna Akter, who injected momentum into the latter stages.

The fifth-wicket partnership between Nigar and Shorna proved to be Bangladesh’s most productive stand of the innings, yielding 33 runs. Shorna attacked from the outset, scoring a brisk 22 off just 15 deliveries, including a four and a six. Her dismissal at 121/5 in the nineteenth over halted Bangladesh’s late surge. However, Nigar remained unbeaten throughout the innings, compiling a composed 46 not out from 39 balls, featuring five boundaries and a six. Alongside Rabeya Khan (2 not out), she ensured Bangladesh finished strongly at 133/5 in 20 overs. Extras contributed eight runs to the total.

Scotland’s bowling effort was disciplined throughout the innings. Gabriella Fontenla, who was later named Player of the Match, delivered an outstanding spell of 1/11 from four overs, including a maiden, and removed Dilara Akter. Captain Kathryn Bryce picked up the wicket of Juairiya Ferdous while conceding 24 runs in her three overs. Kirstie Gordon accounted for Sharmin Akhter and maintained pressure with figures of 1/21 from four overs. Abtaha Maqsood claimed the important wicket of Sobhana Mostary, finishing with 1/14 from two overs, while Chloe Abel bowled three overs for 23 runs. Scotland’s fielders also played a major role, contributing to a crucial run-out and maintaining high standards in the field.

Chasing 134, Scotland Women started confidently through Darcey Carter and Katherine Fraser. The opening pair added 33 runs before Carter was dismissed for a well-made 23 from 17 balls, an innings that included five boundaries. Fraser continued the momentum and combined with skipper Kathryn Bryce in a productive 47-run partnership for the second wicket, taking Scotland firmly into control of the chase. Fraser contributed 28 from 30 deliveries, striking three fours before departing with the score on 80.

With the required rate comfortably under control, Kathryn Bryce took charge of proceedings. Displaying her class and authority, the Scotland captain played a magnificent unbeaten knock of 54 from just 32 balls, smashing four boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 168.75. She found excellent support from wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce, who remained unbeaten on 23 from 15 balls, including two boundaries. The sisters put together an unbroken 54-run partnership for the third wicket, sealing the chase in just 15.4 overs as Scotland finished on 134/2.

Shorna Akter picked up the wicket of Katherine Fraser and returned figures of 1/19 from two overs. Marufa Akter bowled economically with 0/16 from three overs, while Rabeya Khan conceded 14 runs in her two overs. Nahida Akter went wicketless but bowled three overs, and Fahima Khatun and Sobhana Mostary were unable to make breakthroughs during their brief spells.
