Australian wicketkeeper-batter Georgia Redmayne has been signed by South East Stars for the four Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy games and the Charlotte Edwards Cup, while Nicola Hancock has extended her tenure with the Sunrisers.
Georgia Redmayne will join the South East Stars for the Charlotte Edwards Cup encounter against Sunrisers on June 15 and will stay with the team until July 14. Throughout this period, Georgia will be on hand for three T20 matches and four Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy fixtures, with the potential to participate in the Charlotte Edwards Cup finals day if the Stars qualify.
Aside from her cricketing skills, Redmayne is also a qualified doctor. With nearly 200 matches under her belt, she has represented various teams such as Hobart Hurricanes, Perth Scorchers, and Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League, as well as New South Wales, Tasmania, and captained Queensland in the Women’s National Cricket League.
Previously, Georgia played for Worcestershire in the Women’s County Championship before joining Welsh Fire in The Hundred in 2021, where she ended as the team’s second-highest run-scorer for the season. In the upcoming 2024 edition, she will represent London Spirit. During the 2023 WBBL, Redmayne representing Brisbane Heat played a crucial role, scoring 354 runs and making 14 dismissals behind the stumps, despite her team narrowly losing the final to Adelaide Strikers.
Georgia Redmayne expressed her eagerness and gratitude towards joining the Stars cricket team. She acknowledges the opportunity to play in English conditions once again and expresses gratitude. Redmayne’s hope to positively contribute to the team’s success, both on and off the field, reflects her commitment and enthusiasm towards her new role.
Georgia expressed, “I am very excited to have been asked to play for the Stars – I’ve been following their season closely and have been impressed by their dynamic style of play as one of the leading teams in the competition. I’m very grateful to be given another opportunity to play in English conditions and hope I can contribute positively to the team’s success on and off the field.”
On the other hand, Nicola Hancock, who joined the Sunrisers’ squad at the beginning of the 2024 season, has displayed remarkable skill with the ball, securing three-wicket hauls in four out of six games played. She currently leads the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy wicket-taking standings for the season with an impressive tally of 14 wickets.
Bringing a wealth of experience in the short format, Hancock is a key player in the Brisbane Heat lineup, particularly excelling with the new ball in the T20 Women’s Big Bash League. Nicola has been a standout performer in the WBBL, accumulating 45 wickets from 33 innings over the past couple of seasons at an economy rate of around 7.5. Additionally, she made significant contributions with the bat lower down the order, accumulating 56 runs from 5 innings at a striking rate of just over 100.
Sunrisers’ Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign commences on Sunday, May 19, with an away fixture at Worcestershire’s New Road, followed by a home game at Chelmsford under the lights on Friday, May 24.
