Day 7: Janet Mbabazi and Loreen Tshuma Lead as Uganda and Zimbabwe HP XI Lock in Playoffs Spot

Uganda, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda sealed comprehensive victories against Tanzania, Malawi, Cameroon and Brazil on the 7th day of the ongoing edition of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament. Nigeria were up against Uganda in the 29th match, Rwanda were up against Tanzania in the 30th match, Brazil were up against Cameroon in the 31st match, while Sierra Leone were up against Zimbabwe’s High Performance XI in the 32nd match on the 8th day of the ongoing edition of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament 2025.

Match 29: Nigeria Women vs Uganda Women

Handy contributions from Muhibat Amusa (30 off 52 balls) and Salome Sunday (14 off 25 balls) took Nigeria to a respectable total of 73/9 in their quota of 20 overs, after the Ugandan skipper, Janet Mbabazi, won the toss and opted to field first. The 35-run 5th wicket partnership between Salome Sunday and Muhibat Amusa was the highest partnership of the innings for Nigeria.

Skipper Janet Mbabazi (4-0-16-4) was the stand-out performer with the ball for Uganda. Kevin Amuge (4-0-6-1) and Concy Aweko (4-1-10-1) were sensational with the ball for their side.

Chasing a target of 74, the Ugandan top-order kept them in the run chase with vital contributions from Esther Iloku (15 off 30 balls), Immaculate Nakisuuyi (13 off 23 balls), and Rita Musamali (10 off 11 balls). However, it eventually wasn’t enough for them to get over the line, as the Nigerian bowlers held their nerve till the end, to wrap Uganda for 69 in their quota of 20 overs, sealing the game by four runs.

Annointed Akhigbe (4-1-11-3), Rachael Samson (4-0-17-3), and Lillian Udeh (4-2-10-2) were exceptional with the ball for Nigeria. While Muhibat Amusa (4-0-16-1) played her part with the ball for her side. Annointed Akhigbe was awarded the Player of the Match for her game-changing spell with the ball for her side.

Match 30: Rwanda Women vs Tanzania Women

A solid 35-run opening partnership between Merveille Uwase (22 off 33 balls) and skipper Marie Bimenyimana (15 off 30 balls) was followed by a horrible collapse as Rwanda folded for 74 in their quota of 20 overs, after skipper Marie Bimenyimana won the toss and opted to bat first. Agnes Qwele (4-1-7-4), Mwanamvua Ushanga (4-1-10-3) were the stand-out performers with the ball for Tanzania. While Neema Pius (4-0-14-1) and Perice Kamunya (4-0-17-1) played their part with the ball for their side.

Chasing a target of 75, Tanzania got over the line with 7 wickets in hand and 52 balls to spare. Fatuma Kibasu (41* off 37 balls) steered the run chase to guide her side over the line. Neema Pius (10 off 12 balls) played a crucial role with the bat for her side. Henriette Ishimwe (2.2.0-15-2) and Rosine Irera (3-0-10-1) were the only wicket-takers with the ball for Rwanda. Agnes Qwele was awarded the Player of the Match for her exceptional spell (4-1-7-4) with the ball for her side.

Match 31: Brazil Women vs Cameroon Women

Cameroon’s new-ball bowlers handed an early setback by sending Laura Agatha back to the pavilion for a duck after skipper Michelle Ekani won the toss and opted to field first. Ana Sabino and Lindsay Boas led the recovery with a much-needed 58-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Maeva Douma broke the stand by sending Ana Sabino (43 off 32 balls) back to the pavilion to provide the much-needed 2nd breakthrough for Cameroon.

Decent partnerships for the rest of the innings saw Brazil post a challenging total of 156/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Lindsay Boas (40 off 43 balls), Laura Cardoso (21 off 14 balls), and Marianne Artur (14 off 8 balls) chipped in with crucial contributions with the bat for Brazil. Maeva Douma (3-0-18-2) and Edwige Guehoada (4-0-26-1) were impressive with the ball for their side. Olive Ranedoumoun (3-0-21-1) and Akago Eliane (3-0-26-1) were impressive with the ball for their side.

Chasing a target of 157, the Cameroon batters succumbed to the scoreboard pressure as they folded for just 44 runs with more than six overs to spare. As a result, they fell 112 runs short of the target. Bernadette Mbida (18 off 23 balls) was the only batter to enter the double digits with the bat for Cameroon. Maria Ribeiro (4-2-9-3) was exceptional with the ball, while Carolina Nascimento (2-0-3-2), Lindsay Boas (1.4-0-4-1), and Marianne Artur (2-0-9-1) played their part with the ball for Brazil. Ana Sabino (43 off 32 balls) was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant innings with the bat for her side.

Match 32: Sierra Leone Women vs Zimbabwe HP XI Women

Sierra Leone posted a decent total of 108/3 in their quota of 20 overs, after their skipper Aminata Kamara won the toss and opted to bat first. Emma Kamara (31 off 43 balls), Fatu Conteh (29 off 37 balls), Celina Bull (16 off 13 balls), and wicket-keeper batter Zainab Kamara (10 off 10 balls) chipped in with crucial contributions with the bat for their side. Nomvelo Sibanda (4-1-10-1) was exceptional with the ball, while Lindokuhle Mabhero (4-0-23-1) and Michelle Mavunga (4-0-12-0) played their part with the ball for their side.

Chasing a target of 109, the Zimbabwean batters Loreen Tshuma (59* off 57 balls) and Loryn Phiri (43* off 36 balls) made light work of the run chase, after losing the wicket of their opening batter Nyasha Gwanzura in the 2nd over of the run chase. Zimbabwe clinched the game with 9 wickets in hand and 25 balls to spare. Linda Bull (2.5-0-27-1) was the only wicket-taker with the ball, while Aminata Kamara (2-1-2-0) was impressive with the ball for Sierra Leone. Loreen Tshuma was awarded the Player of the Match for her outstanding, unbeaten half-century, guiding her side over the line in the run chase for Zimbabwe.
