The Bangladesh women’s team is hosting Ireland for the first time for a white ball series that includes a three-match ODI series followed by a three-match T20I series from the 27th of November 2024 to 9th December 2024. All the matches of the series will be played in Mirpur.

Bangladesh openers Murshida Khatun and Fargana Hoque Pinky got the home side off to a solid start with a 59-run opening partnership after skipper Nigar Sultana Joty won the toss and opted to bat first in the 1st ODI of the series at Mirpur. Laura Delany, who returned to the side after an injury layoff, provided the first breakthrough for Ireland by sending Murshida Khatun back to the pavilion.
Sharmin Akhter joined Fargana Hoque at the crease and the duo capitalised on the platform provided by the openers with another massive 104-run 2nd wicket partnership to take their side past the 150-run mark. Aimee Maguire picked up the wicket of Fargana Hoque to provide the much-needed 2nd breakthrough for her side. Bangladesh eventually ended up with a total of 252/4 in their quota of 50 overs, their highest total in Women’s ODI.

Sharmin Akhter (96 off 89 balls) fell just four runs short of her well-deserved century, while Fargana Hoque (61 off 110 balls), Murshida Khatun (38 off 61 balls), and skipper Nigar Sultana Joty (28 off 28 balls) chipped in with crucial contributions with the bat for the home side. Freya Sargent (10-0-51-2), Ava Canning (10-0-35-0), Aimee Maguire (10-0-62-1), Arlene Kelly (10-0-46-0), and Laura Delany (6-0-38-1) were the positives with the ball for the visitors.
A clinical blowing effort wrapped Ireland for 98 to take the ODI series lead
Chasing a decent total of 253, the visitors, Ireland, were bundled out for just 98, with more than 20 overs to spare. The Irish batters failed to adapt to the conditions on offer in Bangladesh and as a result, fell 154 runs short of the target, as the hosts registered their biggest win on runs margin in Women’s ODIs.

The 38-run 3rd wicket partnership between Sarah Forbes (25 off 51 balls), and Orla Prendergast (19 off 34 balls) was the highest partnership of the run chase. Laura Delany (22 off 38 balls) was the other stand-out performer with the bat for Ireland. Nahida Akter (9-1-23-3), Sultana Khatun (8.5-0-23-3), and Marufa Akter (4-0-18-2) were responsible for triggering a collapse.
