India heads into the ODI series after beating New Zealand 2-1 in an ODI series whereas Australia will be playing their first ODI series since March 2024 with the last being played against Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series where they won all three matches.

The last time both (India & Australia) played against each other in the ODIs was when India hosted Australia but was handed a whitewash as Australia clinched the three-match ODI series.

In the ODI format, both sides have played 53 matches so far. Australia has a supreme record against India who have won 43 matches out of 53 while India has won only 10.

The 2000s saw a series of highly intense battles between both teams with Australia often holding the edge. It was in 2004 both teams played a bilateral series in the format when Australia toured India. It was a historical 7-match ODI series between both sides. Australia emerged as winners in the nail-biting series as the series ended 4-3 in Australia’s favor.

It was in 2006 Indian team first toured Australia for a bilateral series. But the Australian team continued its domination as they secured a 3-0 series victory. Later on, the Indian side toured Australia in October 2008, but the results once again tilted in the favour of Australia as they won the five-match ODI series by 5-0.

Notably, Australia has won 16 matches on their home turf against India whereas India has registered victories on 4 occasions which displays Australia’s impressive track record at home. India’s first win on Australian soil in a bilateral series came during their last tour to Australia when they toured Australia for a multi-format series in September 2021. They chased down 265 securing a narrow 2-wicket victory over Australia but the host went on to win the series by 2-1.

Though Australia has been unbeatable, remaining undefeated in an ODI series against India, the question remains: Can India turn the tables this time, riding on the confidence of their recent successes?
