Group A: Round V – Andhra and Madhya Pradesh defeat Meghalaya and Gujarat – Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2019

Group A: Round V – Andhra and Madhya Pradesh win over Meghalaya and Gujarat in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2019.

The first Round V match of Group A between Assam and Bihar had to be abandoned. The other two games saw Andhra and Madhya Pradesh emerging victorious over Meghalaya and Gujarat.

Date: 20 October 2019

Match 1: Andhra vs Meghalaya

Venue: RVR & JC College Ground, Guntur

Put to bat first, Andhra started the innings well. Captain Anusha Neeruggati was the standout performer. She made 46 runs in 45 balls while Vurukuti Pushpa Latha made 27 in as many balls. Padmaja Ellutla scored 21 in 24 and remained not out. Andhra were 119/5 after batting 20 overs.

Meghalaya put up a dismal batting display. They could only bat till 18.1 overs when the team got bowled out scoring only 27 runs. None of the batter could score more than 10. Captain Debasmita Dutta and opener Saee Kiran Purandare made 9 and 7 runs respectively. Padmaja Ellutla was exceptional with the ball – in the 4 overs that she bowled, she took 3 wickets giving only 2 runs.

Result: Andhra Pradesh won by 92 runs.

Match 2: Gujarat vs Madhya Pradesh

Venue: RVR & JC College Ground, Guntur

Gujarat won the toss and chose to bat first in the 12-overs per side reduced game. Openers Sarvi Ashwin Shah 13(13) and Simran Patel 15(20) gave a good start to the team. Bhavana Goplani was the highest scorer, making 22 runs in 15 balls. Gujarat made 81 runs in 11 overs losing 5 wickets.

Madhya Pradesh didn’t have the best of starts with Captain Babita Mandlik falling for a duck in the first ball of the innings. But opener Deeksha Vichitra took the innings forward. She made 48 runs in 37 balls before getting run-out. Neha Badwaik also made an unbeaten 21 off 17 towards the end. Madhya Pradesh chased the target in the final over.

Result: Madhya Pradesh won by 7 wickets.
