Summary: 3rd T20 – Australia ‘A’ whitewash series against India ‘A’ after Elyse Villani hits 70
Australia ‘A’ Women effectively managed to whitewash the T20 series over India ‘A’ Women as they won the third and final T20 match. Elyse Villani made a fine knock of 70 runs while Heather Graham too hit a half-ton. The hosts won the match by 22 runs over their Indian counterparts.
Winning the toss, India ‘A’ opted to field first in the 3rd T20 at Bill Pippen Oval, Gold Coast. Australia ‘A’ captain Tahlia McGrath bagged a duck in the 4th ball of the innings. Mansi Joshi took the wicket of McGrath and followed it up with the dismissal of Erin Burns on 6. But opener Elyse Villani and number 4 bat Heather Graham made sure that they take their team to a good score. Villani took the limelight as she hit 8 fours and 2 sixes en route her 56-ball 70, only to be dismissed by Anuja Patil in the 17th over. Graham, on the other hand, remained not out on 51 off 48 and along with Phoebe Litchfield (16* off 10) took Australia’s score to 151/3 at the end of 20 overs.
India ‘A’ had a terrible start with explosive opener Shafali Verma getting out on duck as well as Sushma Verma and Priya Punia getting dismissed cheaply. Captain Veda Krishnamurthy made 35 runs in 22 balls before getting stumped in the 12th over. Nuzhat Parween and Dayalan Hemalatha remained not out at the end of the chase on 44 and 24 respectively. But this was not enough as they fell 22 runs less. India finished on 129/5 with Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, Molly Strano, Maitlan Brown, Erin Burns, and Amanda-Jade Wellington getting one wicket apiece.
