Georgia Voll’s Unbeaten 45 Powers Australia to Nine-Wicket Win Over Bangladesh

Australia Women continued their winning run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Bangladesh Women in Match 9 at Headingley, Leeds, on June 17. A strong bowling display followed by an easy run chase helped Australia win the match with 63 balls to spare and earn another important two points.

After winning the toss, Australia captain Sophie Molineux decided to bowl first. Her bowlers made an immediate impact and never allowed Bangladesh to settle. Bangladesh struggled to score runs and finished with only 77/8 from their 20 overs.

The innings started badly for Bangladesh when Dilara Akter was bowled by Kim Garth for a duck in the second over. Soon after, Juairiya Ferdous was trapped lbw by Garth after scoring eight runs. Bangladesh were quickly reduced to 15/2 and found themselves under pressure.

Australia continued to take wickets at regular intervals. Sophie Molineux removed Sharmin Akhter for five and later dismissed captain Nigar Sultana. Nigar was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 27 runs from 47 balls and tried hard to keep the innings together, but she received very little support from the rest of the batting line-up.

Sobhana Mostary scored four before falling to Ellyse Perry, while Shorna Akter was dismissed for a duck by the same bowler. Bangladesh slipped to 27/5 inside eight overs and never recovered from that poor start.

Ritu Moni tried to rebuild the innings with a patient 16 from 26 balls. Rabeya Khan added eight useful runs near the end, but Bangladesh were unable to increase the scoring rate. Australia’s bowlers kept things very tight and did not allow any partnerships to develop.

Kim Garth, Sophie Molineux and Ellyse Perry all took two wickets each. Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham also joined the wickets list with one wicket apiece. Australia’s bowlers gave away very few easy runs and restricted Bangladesh to one of the lowest totals of this year’s tournament.

Needing only 78 runs to win, Australia started the chase with confidence. Openers Beth Mooney and Georgia Voll quickly got the scoreboard moving and made sure there was no pressure during the chase.

Mooney hit two boundaries during her knock of 10 runs before she was caught by Ritu Moni off the bowling of Marufa Akter. That was the only wicket Bangladesh managed in the match.

Georgia Voll continued her excellent form with another impressive innings. She remained unbeaten on 45 from just 32 balls, hitting six fours and one six. Voll played positive cricket from the beginning and never allowed Bangladesh’s bowlers to settle.

Ellyse Perry provided good support at the other end and stayed not out on 19 from 15 balls. Together, Voll and Perry shared an unbeaten partnership and guided Australia to 78/1 in only 9.3 overs.

Marufa Akter was the only Bangladesh bowler to take a wicket. The rest of the attack struggled against Australia’s aggressive batting approach.

Perry was named Player of the Match for her all-round effort. She picked up 2/14 with the ball and then scored an unbeaten 19 during the chase. Georgia Voll also played a major role with her match-winning knock.

With this easy win, Australia stayed unbeaten in the tournament and strengthened their position in Group 1. Bangladesh, meanwhile, suffered another defeat and will now look to bounce back in their upcoming matches as they continue their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign.
