England all-rounders Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson are becoming important players in the team’s push for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 title, according to teammate Sophia Dunkley.

England continued their unbeaten start to the tournament with a comfortable 38-run win over Scotland at Headingley, Leeds, on Saturday, June 20, 2026. The victory strengthened their position in Group B and kept their winning run going.
Dunkley was one of the stars of the match, scoring 57 runs from just 37 balls in her first appearance of the tournament. However, it was the late partnership between Kemp and Gibson that helped England finish strongly.
Kemp remained unbeaten on 39, while Gibson finished not out on 30. Together, they added an unbeaten 61 runs and helped England reach a strong total of 200/5 from their 20 overs.
“It was an absolutely amazing partnership, and those two (Kemp and Gibson) are amazing at that role,” Dunkley said after the match.
“Kemp has got so much power down the ground, and Gibber (Gibson) as well, hitting square. So, they’re a great combination.
“To have a partnership like that at the end gives us, as a top-order, a lot of confidence. Trying to set the game up and knowing that we can go really hard at the backend if we need to, which is great.”
England’s powerful finish proved too much for Scotland, who were unable to keep up with the required run rate during their chase.
Kemp and Gibson have worked hard to keep their places in England’s strongest playing XI over the last few years. Both players have faced competition for spots in the side, but their recent performances suggest they are becoming key members of the squad.
Both all-rounders can make valuable contributions with both bat and ball, giving England extra balance and flexibility.
Dunkley believes their power-hitting adds something important to the team, especially during the final overs of an innings.
“I think we’ve probably maybe lacked a little bit of power at the backend, and it’s nice to have some real six hitters coming in and give us that momentum as well, which is so important going into the second innings,” Dunkley said.
“They’re such great all-round players, and to see a performance like that is really special. So it was great to watch as well.”
England have looked strong in all areas of the game so far in the tournament. Their batting lineup has delivered consistent performances, while their bowlers have regularly put pressure on opponents.
The return of captain Nat Sciver-Brunt from a calf injury could create some selection decisions for the team management, but it also gives England even more depth and experience as they aim to win a second Women’s T20 World Cup title.
Dunkley believes the balance throughout the batting order has been one of England’s biggest strengths in the opening matches.
“I think we complement each other really well all down the order. And to have finishes like that is great,” Dunkley noted.
“I think Heather (Knight) is obviously so experienced, and they’ve had to play loads of different situations and in different conditions, which is amazing.
“Nat (Sciver-Brunt), Amy (Jones), I think we’ve got a wealth of experience, so it’s really nice to have that combination.
“It feels like as a batting unit, it’s gelled well in the first few games and obviously hope to continue that going forward.”
With England winning all three of their matches so far, confidence is growing within the squad as they continue their quest for World Cup glory on home soil.
