Juairiya Ferdous Eyes Powerplay Role vs Australia After World Cup Debut Fifty

Bangladesh opener Juairiya Ferdous has said she will continue her attacking approach in the Powerplay after a strong performance against the Netherlands in Match 5 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Edgbaston, Birmingham on June 14, 2026. Her aggressive batting at the top helped Bangladesh start their campaign with a six-wicket win.

It was just her 17th international match, and her first appearance in a senior ICC tournament. The young, hard-hitting batter said she wanted to make an immediate impact at this level and leave a strong mark on the game.

Ferdous made an immediate impact in her first ICC tournament, scoring a quick 50 off 33 balls and setting the tone for the chase with positive intent and clean hitting.

“Since this was the first match of the tournament and also my first World Cup match, my goal was to do something special and contribute to the team. I tried my best, and I am happy that I could contribute, even if only a little.”

She said her main focus is to use the Powerplay well and give Bangladesh strong starts against stronger teams.

“We have matches coming up against some very strong teams,” she said. “My main responsibility is to make good use of the Powerplay, so I will continue trying to do that. Against the bigger teams, I want to make the most of the powerplay and play longer innings for my team.”

Ferdous also said she wants to keep looking for runs on every ball and stay positive even against good bowling attacks.

“When you are trying to win a match, even good deliveries need to be scored off somehow,” she noted. “That was my mindset. I tried to find ways to score runs despite the quality of their bowling, and I think I was able to do that to some extent.”

Bangladesh Women defeated Netherlands Women by six wickets in Birmingham after chasing down 140 in 19.1 overs. Netherlands posted 139/8, with Babette de Leede scoring 50 off 45 balls as the main contributor. Bangladesh’s bowlers shared the wickets and kept the scoring under control throughout the innings.
