Deandra Dottin is one of the most influential cricketers in women’s cricket history and arguably the greatest match-winner West Indies Women have produced. Born in Barbados, she initially excelled in athletics, winning multiple CARIFTA medals in javelin, shot put and discus, before choosing cricket as her primary sport. Her explosive power, athleticism and fierce competitiveness quickly set her apart. Dottin made her international debut in 2008 at just 17 years old and became one of the first women to consistently bring genuine power-hitting and pace bowling to the international game. Her athletic background translated perfectly to cricket, making her a dangerous boundary hitter, a genuine fast-bowling option and one of the quickest fielders in women’s cricket.
Deandra Dottin’s International Career
Dottin’s international breakthrough came at the 2010 Women’s T20 World Cup when she smashed 112* off just 38 balls against South Africa, becoming the first woman ever to score a T20I century. The innings remains the fastest century in Women’s T20I history and transformed perceptions of what was possible in the women’s game. She had earlier set another record with a 22-ball half-century during the 2009 Women’s T20 World Cup, highlighting her extraordinary ball-striking ability.
Over a career spanning more than 270 international appearances across ODIs and T20Is, Dottin established herself as one of the most complete all-rounders in world cricket. In T20Is, she has accumulated 3,114 runs at the strike rate of 125 and 76 wickets. She was also the first woman to score two T20I centuries.
Dottin played a crucial role in West Indies’ greatest successes. She was a key member of the team that won the 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup, taking 9 wickets at 13.55 during the tournament, including an important spell in the final against Australia. At the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, she was West Indies’ leading run-scorer and wicket-taker, claiming 10 wickets, including a remarkable 5 for 5 against Bangladesh. She retired from international cricket in 2022 citing concerns about the team environment but reversed her decision in 2024 and returned ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Dottin has been a sought-after player in franchise leagues around the world for over a decade. In the WBBL, representing teams including the Brisbane Heat, Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades, she has scored 1,018 runs and taken 47 wickets in 66 matches.
In the Women’s Premier League, Dottin has represented both Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz, scoring 271 runs at a strike rate of 178.29 and taking 20 wickets in 15 matches. Across the 2025 and 2026 WPL seasons, she emerged as one of the tournament’s most destructive finishers, scoring 163 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 196.39 in 2025 and adding another 108 runs in 2026. Her ability to change games with both bat and ball earned her a move to Delhi Capitals for the 2026 season.
She has also enjoyed success in The Hundred, where she has scored 534 runs and taken 10 wickets, while in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League she has amassed 377 runs and contributed 5 wickets for Trinbago Knight Riders as the captain. Her reputation as a big-match player extends across every major women’s T20 competition.
Heading into the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, West Indies possess in Dottin a proven match-winner whose experience, power and big-match temperament make her one of the most dangerous players in the tournament. England’s conditions should also suit her fast-medium bowling, giving West Indies another potent option with the new ball and at the death.
