London Spirit led by skipper Heather Knight defeated Birmingham Phoenix led by skipper Ellyse Perry by 20 runs in the 5th match of the tournament at Lord’s. Welsh Fire led by skipper Tammy Beaumont was all set to face Oval Invincibles led by skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill in the 6th match of the tournament at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

Welsh Fire skipper Tammy Beaumont won the toss and opted to bat first. Welsh Fire got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their skipper Tammy Beaumont on the 8th ball of the innings. Marizanne Kapp provided the first breakthrough for Oval Invincibles. Hayley Matthews joined Sophia Dunkley at the crease and the duo stitched a 15-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Amanda-Jade Wellington provided the 2nd breakthrough for her side.

Wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce joined opening batter Sophia Dunkley at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 46-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side past the 50-run mark. Amanda-Jade Wellington came back and picked up the wicket of the opening batter Sophia Dunkley to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Oval Invincibles. Jess Jonassen joined wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce at the crease and the duo stitched a 17-run partnership for the 4th wicket.

Ryana MacDonald-Gay cleaned up the wicket-keeper batter Sarah Bryce to provide the 4th breakthrough for her side. Welsh Fire ended up with a total of 116/5 in their quota of 100 deliveries. Georgia Davis picked up the wicket of Paige Scholfield to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Marizanne Kapp joined Alice Capsey at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 41-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side closer to the 100-run mark. Freya Davis came back and picked up the wicket of Alice Capsey to provide the much-needed 3rd breakthrough for Welsh Fire. Laura Harris soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 4th breakthrough for Welsh Fire.

Maddy Villiers joined Marizanne Kapp at the crease and the duo took their side over the line with six wickets in hand and 12 balls to spare.
