Meg Lanning, Cordelia Griffith, and Sarah Glenn guide London Spirit to back-to-back victories

Trent Rockets led by skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt defeated the Northern Superchargers led by skipper Hollie Armitage by 20 runs at the Headingley, Leeds in the 4th match of the tournament. London Spirit led by skipper Heather Knight was all set to face Birmingham Phoenix led by skipper Ellyse Perry at Lord’s London in the 5th match of the tournament.

Birmingham Phoenix skipper Ellyse Perry won the toss and opted to field first. After being inserted to bat first, the London Spirit openers Meg Lanning and the wicket-keeper batter Georgia Redmayne got their side off to a steady start. Georgia Redmayne was found short of her crease to provide the first breakthrough for Birmingham Phoenix. Cordelia Griffith joined Meg Lanning at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 27-run partnership for the 2nd wicket to take their side past the 50-run mark.

Katie Levick picked up the wicket of Cordelia Griffith to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Skipper Heather Knight joined Meg Lanning at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 44-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side closer to the 100-run mark. Hannah Baker picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper Heather Knight to provide the 3rd breakthrough for Birmingham Phoenix.

Danielle Gibson joined Meg Lanning at the crease and the duo took their side close to the 140-run mark with a 42-run 4th wicket partnership. London Spirit eventually ended up with a total of 147/9 in their quota of 100 deliveries. Meg Lanning (53 off 41 balls), Cordelia Griffith (21 off 10 balls), and skipper Heather Knight (26 off 18 balls) were the top performers with the bat for London Spirit.

Chasing a target of 148, Birmingham Phoenix got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Sterre Kalis on the fourth ball of the run chase. Tara Norris provided the first breakthrough for London Spirit.

Skipper Ellyse Perry joined Suzie Bates at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 24-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Suzie Bates was found short of her crease to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. Sophie Devine joined skipper Ellyse Perry at the crease and the duo stitched a massive 89-run partnership for the 3rd wicket to take their side past the 100-run mark.

Sarah Glenn picked up the wicket of Sophie Devine to provide the 3rd breakthrough for London Spirit. Birmingham Phoenix was eventually restricted to 127/5 in their quota of hundred deliveries. They fell short of the target by 20 runs. Skipper Ellyse Perry (65 off 48 balls), Sophie Devine (37 off 31 balls), and wicket-keeper batter Amy Jones (10 off 4 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Birmingham Phoenix.

Sarah Glenn (20-8-22-3), Tara Norris (10-5-9-1), Danielle Gibson (20-9-19-0), and Charlie Dean (15-4-17-0) were the top performers with the ball for London Spirit.
