The ninth edition of the Women’s Asia Cup Final was played between India and Sri Lanka. It was the third Women’s T20 Asia Cup final for the hosts, while India played their ninth consecutive Asia Cup final.

India elected to bat first, putting up a total of 165 with Smriti Mandhana as their top scorer, contributing 60 runs. Kavisha Dilhari was Sri Lanka’s standout bowler, finishing with figures of 2 for 36. Sri Lanka chased down the required to clinch their first-ever Asia Cup title on the back of Harshita Samarawickrama’s unbeaten 69, Chamari Athapaththu’s 61, and Kavisha Dilhari’s unbeaten 30.

Post game, Harmanpreet Kaur reflected on India’s loss against Sri Lankan in the Women’s Asia Cup final. She first lauded the efforts of Sri Lankan, who played exceptional cricket throughout the tournament, highlighting the individual brilliance of Chamari Athapaththu and the Sri Lankan bowlers, who were phenomenal with the ball. Although the Lankan bowlers didn’t have an ideal outing with the ball, they managed to restrict India below 170.

“We are looking to improve in some areas. We will definitely work hard and remember this day. They have played such good cricket for so long, and they played good cricket throughout this tournament,” the Indian skipper said.

The Indian skipper admitted that her side played brilliantly throughout the ninth edition of the Women’s Asia Cup, remaining unbeaten in the group stages and registering a convincing win in the semi-final against Bangladesh.

“We played good cricket throughout the tournament, and no doubt, we made a lot of fumbles today, and that cost us,” Harmanpreet said.

India put up a respectable total of 166, and no team in the Asia Cup had chased a total above 150 in the ninth edition before the final. Harmanpreet Kaur highlighted that her side lacked effort in the bowling department and failed to capitalize even after claiming a wicket in the second over. India also had an ordinary display in the field with a couple of dropped catches.

“It was a decent total; we were looking for breakthroughs in the powerplay, but it didn’t go according to plan, and Sri Lanka batted really well,” the India skipper added.
