The fourth edition of ‘The Hundred’ will start on July 23rd and conclude on August 18th. It is a 100-ball cricket tournament involving teams from major cities across England and Wales, run by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The tournament first took place in 2021 and will continue to feature eight teams in the women’s edition: Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave, Trent Rockets, and Welsh Fire.
Oval Invincibles is the most successful team in the women’s Hundred, while Southern Brave are the defending champions, having won the title by beating Northern Superchargers in the 2023 edition.
In this article, we go through the overseas participation in the upcoming edition of ‘The Hundred.’
Birmingham Phoenix Women:
Sophie Devine:
The New Zealand skipper will play for Birmingham Phoenix in ‘The Hundred 2024’ tournament. This will be her third stint with the Phoenix franchise, having played for them since 2022, which was her maiden appearance in ‘The Hundred.’ The right-hander had an impressive 2023 season, scoring 191 runs in seven matches.
Ellyse Perry:
The Australian all-rounder will play her second season in ‘The Hundred’ tournament with Birmingham Phoenix. She played for the franchise in 2022, scoring 134 runs in six matches in her maiden season. Ellyse Perry will lead the Birmingham side in the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred.’
Suzie Bates:
The White Ferns opener Suzie Bates will play her maiden stint in ‘The Hundred’ for Birmingham Phoenix. The right-handed batter comes as a replacement for Indian wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh.
Richa Ghosh:
This will be her second consecutive appearance in ‘The Hundred.’ The Indian wicket-keeper batter was previously part of the London Spirit in 2023 and has now moved to the Birmingham side in the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred.’ The right-handed batter recently got to her maiden T20I fifty in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup, scoring 64 off 29 balls. Richa Ghosh will be unavailable for the first three games for Birmingham Phoenix, due to her participation in the Women’s Asia Cup.
London Spirit Women:
Meg Lanning:
The former Australia captain, who retired from international cricket last year after winning seven World Cups and scoring over 8,000 runs, will play in ‘The Hundred’ for the first time. She was due to feature in the 2022 season for Trent Rockets but withdrew amid a break from cricket.
Deepti Sharma:
The crafty Indian spinner will head to the UK after the conclusion of the Women’s Asia Cup. This will be her third season in ‘The Hundred,’ having played for London Spirit in 2021 and Birmingham Phoenix in 2022. It will be her second stint with the Spirit, but she will miss the initial matches due to international duty.
Erin Burns:
The hard-hitting all-rounder from Australia, Erin Burns, will replace Deepti Sharma while she is on international duty. Erin has vast experience playing in ‘The Hundred.’ She played for Birmingham Phoenix in 2021 before joining the Manchester Originals in 2022. In 2023, she returned to Birmingham Phoenix. London Spirit will be her third franchise in four seasons.
Georgia Redmayne:
Top-order batter and wicketkeeper, Georgia will play her second season in ‘The Hundred’ tournament. She played her maiden season in 2021 with Welsh Fire. Although relatively new to ‘The Hundred,’ she has shown her prowess in the WBBL, maintaining strong form leading into this season.
Manchester Originals:
Laura Wolvaardt:
Laura Wolvaardt was the leading run-scorer in ‘The Hundred’ in the 2022 season with 286 runs, representing Northern Superchargers. The Proteas skipper heads into the tournament for her second consecutive season with the Originals. The right-handed batter comes into the tournament in splendid international form, having scored four tons in her last 10 international innings.
Beth Mooney:
The top-ranked T20I batter Beth Mooney will play her second season in ‘The Hundred.’ She represented London Spirit in 2022, which was her maiden season. The left-handed batter was the leading run-scorer for London Spirit that season with 205 runs in six matches, with a highest score of 97, which is the second-highest score in an innings in ‘The Hundred’ to date.
Kim Garth:
Australian all-rounder Kim Garth will replace Sophie Molineux at Manchester Originals in the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred.’ Kim has already featured in ‘The Hundred’ once before, having played for Trent Rockets in 2022.
Northern Superchargers:
Annabel Sutherland:
It will be the second season for Australia’s hard-hitting all-rounder in ‘The Hundred.’ Annabel’s maiden season was for Welsh Fire in 2022, where she scored 88 runs and grabbed 4 wickets.
Phoebe Litchfield:
The left-handed batter was the third leading run-scorer in last year’s ‘The Hundred,’ scoring 279 runs in 10 innings for the Northern Superchargers. Although the Australian batter has had a quiet time of late after an ordinary WPL season, the Superchargers will hope she replicates her form from her maiden season of ‘The Hundred.’
Georgia Wareham:
Australia’s leg spinner was part of the RCB side in WPL who won their maiden WPL title earlier this year. This will be Georgia’s second consecutive season with the Northern Superchargers. Expect her to bring the X-factor to Northern Superchargers’ side.

Oval Invincibles:
Chamari Athapaththu:
The two-time champions have roped in the Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu. Although she will miss the first two games, Chamari brings vast experience to the side, having scored over 3000 T20I runs and recently smashing an unbeaten 119, her third T20I ton. Chamari will be a key player with both the bat and her off-spin.
Laura Harris:
Laura Harris comes as a replacement for Chamari Athapaththu for the first two games. The right-handed batter previously played for Welsh Fire in the 2023 season. She would look to make an impact given a chance in the first two games.
Marizanne Kapp:
This will be the second consecutive season for the Proteas all-rounder with the Oval Invincibles. Marizanne took a wicket off the first-ever ball of ‘The Hundred.’ She was also Oval Invincibles’ leading run-scorer in the 2023 season. She recently scored a century in the multi-format away series against India.
Amanda-Jade Wellington:
Oval Invincibles will be the third team in four seasons for the Australian spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington. Amanda-Jade has previously played for Southern Brave and the Manchester Originals. The leg spinner recently smashed 83 off 53 balls in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for Western Storm.
Megan Schutt:
The Australian pacer replaced injured Tash Farrant. This will be the second season for the Australian pacer, having represented London Spirit in 2022. The leading wicket-taker for Australia in the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup will be looking for a strong outing in the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred’.
Southern Brave:
Smriti Mandhana:
One of the most elegant batters around the globe will feature in ‘The Hundred’ for the Southern Brave. The Indian left-handed batter had an exceptional multi-format series, scoring three centuries, including two in ODIs and one in a Test. Mandhana will look to continue her dream form going into the tournament, though she will miss the first two games due to international duty.
Charli Knott:
Charli Knott comes as a replacement for Indian batter Smriti Mandhana. Following Mandhana’s unavailability for the first two games, Southern Brave roped in Charli Knott as her replacement. It will be the maiden season for the Australian batter in the 100-ball tournament.
Chloe Tryon:
The South African all-rounder adds depth to the Southern Brave. Known for her power-hitting and effective bowling, Tryon recently appeared in the T20I series against India. In the initial edition of ‘The Hundred,’ she was drafted by London Spirit before moving to Southern Brave in 2023.
Lauren Cheatle:
It will be a maiden season for Australia’s pacer Lauren Cheatle in ‘The Hundred.’ The left-arm pacer will look to have an impressive season with the Southern Brave.
Trent Rockets:
Ashleigh Gardner:
One of Australia’s key all-rounders, Ashleigh Gardner, will feature in the 100-ball format for Trent Rockets. This will be her maiden stint for the franchise as well as in the tournament. Ashleigh can be a valuable player in both departments and is a player to watch in the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred.’
Alana King:
The Australian all-rounder, known for her reputation in the Women’s Big Bash League, will play for Trent Rockets in the 100-ball tournament. She has been with the side since 2022 and will look for another standout season in the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred.’
Heather Graham:
The 27-year-old all-rounder is the third Australian in the Trent Rockets’ squad. She was part of the Trent Rockets side in the inaugural season but didn’t feature in the next two years. She now makes her comeback with the same side she previously played for.
Welsh Fire:
Shabnim Ismail:
The Proteas pacer Shabnim Ismail will play her fourth consecutive season in ‘The Hundred.’ She has been part of the tournament since its inception, representing Oval Invincibles in 2021 and 2022 before moving to Welsh Fire in 2023. Shabnim will play her second consecutive season with Welsh Fire and will look to make a significant contribution with the ball.
Hayley Matthews:
The Windies skipper will feature in the 100-ball tournament for Welsh Fire. She has been with Welsh Fire since the inception of the tournament and recently has been in brilliant form after an impressive limited-over series against Pakistan, dominating with both bat and ball.
Jess Jonassen:
Jess Jonassen was drafted into the Welsh Fire side for the fourth edition of ‘The Hundred.’ This will be her first season in ‘The Hundred.’ The left-arm spinner last featured for the Delhi Capitals in the 2024 edition of the Women’s Premier League.
