As we stand on the brink of the third edition of The Hundred with teams having made changes in the dimensions and strategies being brewed up, excitement levels continue to create waves of joy across the cricketing fraternity. The eight teams will battle their skins out to put up competition of the highest quality and bring home the prized title.
Today, we will look at three such lethal bowlers who could potentially stand as the highest wicket-takers at the end of the tournament with fierce precision and daunting lengths.
1. Amanda-Jade Wellington:
Australian leggie, Amanda’s loopy leg spinners have spun many unravelable webs on the receiving end of the wicket. The tossed-up ball sees many revolutions until it finally pitches and flummoxes the batter. Her international T20 career sees an impeccable average of 11.20.
The 26-year-old finished off as the highest wicket-taker in the previous season with 17 wickets in 8 innings. She fathoms her chances to have a dream season again this time around. The Braves fell short in the final hurdle in the 2022 edition as they faltered in the finals and Amanda’s (2/20) went in vain.
2. Lauren Bell:
English pace spearhead, Bell is by far known for her movement on and off the pitch. The power play phase of the game is a nightmare for the batters as they align to face the missiles delivered by her. The 22-year-old Lauren’s career is slowly gaining attention, her T20I tally sees an average of 18 and an economy of 6.85.
Most recently Bell had a good run in the Ashes where she scalped crucial wickets at regular intervals and broke some game-changing partnerships where she finished off with 11 wickets in the limited-overs series. The Braves will now get onto the playing arena with an optimistic outlook as they will look to ride on Bell’s expertise with the new ball.
3. Sarah Glenn:
Yet another leggie in the ranks, Sarah Glenn possesses some serious threat to the batters in the form of deceptive wrist bowling. Her presence in the middle overs acts like a double-edged sword in containing the run rate and also getting wickets at regular intervals. With 59 wickets in the T20I at an average of 17.15, she is an experienced campaigner.
In the previous year’s edition the Rockets fell short to Southern Brave in the eliminator, this time around with a well-rounded team they will look to go the extra distance and come closer to winning the title. Glenn’s role as a leg-break bowler will aid the Rockets’ chances of making an impact in the tournament.
