2019 is the year that we should celebrate the spirit of womanhood. We should honor every woman who is breaking stereotypes, challenging gender norms and pursuing their passion whole-heartedly. 2019 is the year where women should get their due recognition for their hard work and dedication. From business to sport, women are leading the charge into the future.
Indian Sporting icons like Smriti Mandhana to PV Sindhu for example, serve as an inspiration to countless young girls to work hard and pursue their sporting passion regardless of the obstacles in their way.
On the same lines ConnectFor (https://www.connectfor.org/) , wishes to support and encourage women in the field of sports. Cricket continues to be the most played sports in India and with the India Women’s cricket team reaching new heights, we wish to do our bit and encourage young girls, the women of tomorrow to actively participate in the sport.
ConnectFor has organized an all women’s Cricket match on the occasion of Women’s Day 2019 in association with the Female Cricket Academy, an exclusive coaching academy for girls in India. The academy is an initiative by Female Cricket (www.femalecricket.com) which aims to promote and raise the profile of our women cricketers in and around the world. It was initiated with an objective of building a platform for young girls to showcase their talents, nurture their cricket dreams and make progress in their professional cricket career. The academy was envisioned to become a nurturing ground for young and aspiring female talents in the country and is led by former Indian national player Coach Gargi Banerji, who brings her prodigious cricket coaching experience to the table.
The academy would mentor the girls on the event day and might train the girls for free if they show great potential at the event. The participating girls will be playing on behalf of NGOs namely Urja Trust, Udaan India Foundation, Kutumba Foundation and Bright Future.
Several generous individuals and organisations have come forward in supporting us for the event. Parshv Lalwani the owner of The Sports Square has rented out his cricket turf to us without any fee, Jewellery brand Pipa Bella has agreed to reward the players for their efforts by gifting personalised bracelets to all the players as a token of participation, Poshn has taken the responsibility of keeping our players hydrated with its Organic juices and the Soup Magazine would cover this event in their magazine.
We are extremely thankful and grateful for the support we have received and hope the event makes a difference in these girl’s lives, encouraging them to pursue the wonderful game of cricket further.
