Jess Jonassen Hits 108 and Takes 4-Fer as Yorkshire Women Beat Lancashire by 83 Runs at Old Trafford

Yorkshire Women produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat Lancashire Women by 83 runs in the 14th Match of the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026 at Manchester on April 25. The Yorkshire Women vs Lancashire Women clash turned into a showcase of disciplined batting led by Jess Jonassen and a clinical bowling effort spearheaded by the same player, as Yorkshire defended their total with authority.

The innings did not begin the way Yorkshire Women would have planned. Lancashire skipper Kate Cross struck early, removing captain Lauren Winfield-Hill for a duck in just the second over with the score at 1. Cross then followed it up by dismissing Georgie Boyce for 4, leaving Yorkshire struggling at 2 for 13 in 2.6 overs. Mahika Gaur joined the party soon after, and when Sterre Kalis fell for a composed 45 off 54 balls, caught by Ailsa Lister off Gaur, Yorkshire had slipped to 3 for 122 in 23.4 overs despite some recovery.

The rebuilding act was anchored beautifully by Jess Jonassen, who played the innings of the match. Calm under pressure, Jonassen mixed patience with controlled aggression, striking 108 off 122 deliveries, including 13 boundaries and two sixes. She first steadied the innings with Sterre Kalis in a crucial 109-run third-wicket partnership that shifted momentum back toward Yorkshire. Kalis supported brilliantly with her fluent knock before departing just short of a half-century.

After Kalis’ dismissal, Ami Campbell added 15 off 38 balls, helping Jonassen keep the innings stable. Their stand took Yorkshire to 176 before Campbell was caught by Cross off Hannah Jones. IL Blackwell chipped in with 19 from 30 balls, while Maddie Ward added a useful 17 from 20 deliveries. Beth Langston’s quick 13 off 10 balls, including a six, added late momentum, while Rachel Slater remained unbeaten on 5. Lower-order contributions from Claudie Cooper and Jessica Woolston were limited, but the foundation laid by Jonassen ensured Yorkshire reached a competitive 241 in 49.2 overs.

Lancashire’s bowling effort was led by Kate Cross, who was outstanding with figures of 4 for 38 in her 10 overs, consistently breaking partnerships and controlling the flow of runs. Mahika Gaur supported well with 3 for 41 in 7.2 overs, while Tara Norris, Grace Potts, and Hannah Jones picked up one wicket each. Their discipline kept Yorkshire from crossing the 260-mark, but Jonassen’s century had already created scoreboard pressure.

Chasing 242, Lancashire Women never found the rhythm required. Rachel Slater gave Yorkshire the perfect start by dismissing Eve Jones for a duck at just 1 run on the board. Darcy Carter and Seren Smale attempted a rebuild, with Carter scoring 18 and Smale playing positively for 46 off 56 balls with seven boundaries. Their partnership added valuable runs, but Jess Jonassen once again changed the game by trapping Carter lbw and later removing skipper Eleanor Threlkeld for a 9-ball duck, reducing Lancashire to 3 for 64.

Smale and Fi Morris tried to fight back with an aggressive stand, taking the score to 74 before Smale fell to Jonassen, caught by Beth Langston. Fi Morris contributed 21 off 31 balls, but Beth Langston removed her at 108, and from there Lancashire’s chase began to collapse. Ailsa Lister made 16, Kate Cross scored 16, and Mahika Gaur added a fighting 18 with a six, but wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals.

Claudie Cooper delivered a sharp spell in the middle and lower order, claiming 3 for 24 in 6.4 overs, including the key wickets of Kate Cross, Tara Norris, and Mahika Gaur. Jess Jonassen was the star with the ball as well, finishing with excellent figures of 4 for 30 from her 10 overs, showing why she was the clear match-winner. Beth Langston picked up 1 for 29, Rachel Slater took 1 for 13, and Maddie Ward also chipped in with a wicket.

Hannah Jones remained unbeaten on 8, but Lancashire Women were eventually bowled out for 158 in 41.4 overs, falling 83 runs short of the target. Jess Jonassen’s maiden century and four-wicket haul defined the contest, while strong support from Sterre Kalis, Claudie Cooper, and the bowling unit ensured Yorkshire Women secured a memorable victory in the ECB Women’s One-Day Cup 2026.
