Players to watch out:
Erin Burns
The 35-year-old Australian all-rounder, from 7 CE Cup outings last summer, added 185 runs to the tally and scalped 9 wickets, registering bests of 66 and 3/26. Erin, with plenty of wickets and a few runs to her name, kicked off her ’24 English domestic season on the right foot and continuing her form, in the T20s has registered scores of 22 and 30, while producing figures of 5/25 and 2/22. She can be counted on for the goods.
Rachel Slater
The 22-year-old left-arm pacer, from 19 T20Is, has scalped 16 wickets, including the best of 5/17, at an economy rate of 6.79. Rachel bagged 11 wickets from 6 T20Is in the global qualifier ahead of the CE Cup and carrying her form into the competition, her returns read 0/25, 1/30, and 2/10. Given her recent form and success, it’ll be expected of her to produce breakthroughs, leading the wickets tally.
Paige Scholfield
The 28-year-old all-rounder didn’t find much success in the CE Cup last season, managing only 48 runs from 6 innings, though she struck 6 wickets. Paige struggled for runs early this domestic season, but with successive fifties in the One Dayers seemed to have found her mojo. In the T20 opener, while she departed cheaply for 12, she followed up with a fluent 73* and it’ll be hoped she capitalizes on this return to form.
Tash Farrant
The 28-year-old left-arm pacer didn’t bowl in the CE Cup last edition and is playing at full fitness this season. She kicked off the ’24 domestic season with successive scores of 94, 68*, 54, and 20 in the One Dayers, while also bagging at least a wicket in most of her outings. In T20s, while she hasn’t been required much with the bat, she has returned figures of 2/17 and 1/8. She can be relied upon for all-round efforts.
Pitch:
The 22-yard strip at the Riverside Ground is relatively balanced with an average score in the 140s. While conditions are conducive for batting, the wicket also offers assistance to both pacers and spinners, as reflected in the average score.
Weather:
With moderate winds, humidity at 70%, and the temperature expected to be around 16°C, the conditions are favorable with no rain on the radar. The overhead will be bright and clear, promising a complete game of cricket.
