The Indian Women’s Team’s campaign at the 2017 world cup was a breakthrough for women’s cricket in India.
It inspired a lot of young girls to pick up the willow and the leather ball, look at cricket as a career option, and take up professional cricket coaching. One such story is that of Akriti Maurya from Delhi, India.
The 16-year-old is an ardent cricket fan and plays for Bharti Public School Cricket Academy in East Delhi. It took a year of convincing her parents for Akriti to join a
professional cricket academy after the 2017 world cup that inspired her to take up the game, but she never gave up.
She finally joined her current academy in 2018 and is now hustling hard to make it to the Delhi state cricket team. She owes her success to her coach, Sachin Aggarwal who taught her the sport from scratch. Here’s Akriti practicing at her academy –
We wish her the best of luck and hope she continues to hit it out of the park and makes it big like her idol, Jemimah Rodrigues ☺
