New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced a New Zealand XI squad featuring 7 players with international experience to be a part of the 2 warm-up matches starting on the 28th of November (Monday) in the lead-up to the series. The series will see the two sides contest over a 50-over and T20 game at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

Central Districts’ wicketkeeper-batter, Natalie Dodd, will take the gloves, while centurions from the last week’s opening round of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, Kate Ebrahim and Bernadine Bezuidenhout, have both made the cut. Senior team players, Hannah Rowe and Molly Penfold will take the responsibility of managing the pace attack.

New Zealand Cricket Head of Women’s High Performance, Liz Green, said, “This is an exciting squad that includes international experience, as well as a handful of players who will be staking their claim in the future.

“We’ve already seen some really strong performances in the opening rounds of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, and those players have been rewarded with selection, as have players who’ve performed consistently over a number of seasons.

“We’ve also included players who we feel can benefit from experience against international teams; these matches are another step in their development. We have focused on developing a really clear style of how we want to play both forms of cricket, and the players selected for these matches are those we think will complement that style.

“We want to be developing a clear pathway into the WHITE FERNS environment and that means having players throughout the pathway understanding that style. There’s a lot of talent in this squad and we’re looking forward to seeing how it fares.”

The named New Zealand XI squad will assemble in Christchurch on November 27 (Sunday) to be coached by Central Hinds’ Jamie Watkins and Otago Sparks’ Craig Cumming throughout the course of the series. The young girls have been presented with a brilliant opportunity to express their game as they all will keenly be watched on by selector and head coach, Ben Sawyer.
