In a significant decision by the Board of Cricket Control in India, both the men’s and women’s team are going to participate in the upcoming Asian Games which are going to be held in China. BCCI also announced the squad for the tournament. Harmanpreet Kaur will be the captain of India, stars like Deepti Sharma, Smriti Mandhana will also feature for the Indian team.
The tournament will start on 19th September with a total of 14 teams including the hosts China are going to participate in it. 2 games will take place each day and the finals will be played on 26th September. All the matches are set to take place on Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field.

The top 4 teams according to the ICC World Rankings as of 1st June will directly qualify to the quarter finals. These 4 teams will be India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. A total of 14 games will be played in the tournament, if a team loses a match, that team will be knocked out of the tournament, meaning every match will be a do-or-die for the teams.
Women’s Cricket has been a part of 2 editions of the Asian Games earlier, in 2010 and in 2014. Pakistan came out victorious both times beating Bangladesh in both editions final. Japan secured the bronze medal in 2010, while Sri Lanka won the bronze medal in 2014.

In 2010, 8 teams participated in the event, which was later increased to 10 in the 2014 edition, this year the participation will be the highest with 14 teams competing. Japan and South Korea won’t be participating this year, furthermore, India, Bhutan, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, and Singapore will be competing for the first time.
Many teams will play only one match in this tournament if they do lose. India and Pakistan both will play their first match on 22nd September against respective opponents, meanwhile, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will play their first match on 23rd September. Indian Contingent will be looking to win a gold medal in this competition.
