The recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier had Thailand a part of the 8-team tournament and having finished 2nd on the points table in their Group B with a couple of wins and a defeat coming off 3 games, the side advanced to the Semi-Final where they lost to Bangladesh who were the eventual champions of the tournament.
Zimbabwe having lost its Semi-Final against Ireland, competed against Thailand for the 3rd spot in the seedings and successfully went on to defend their low total of 118 by 7 runs and denied Thailand the 3rd place finish. A quick turnaround it is for Thailand as they now cross shores and reach Bangladesh for the upcoming Women’s T20 Asia Cup tournament.
Thailand for the tournament have announced the same squad of 15 that featured in the recently concluded ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in the United Arab Emirates. A few hours after Thailand confirmed their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released a statement that has Rosenan Kanoh suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.

Thailand have been a regular feature in the Asia Cup having featured in 2012, 2016 and the 2018 editions, but haven’t had the performances they would have wished for as the side only won a game out of 3 in the 2012 edition, then again, won only a game out of 5 in the 2016 edition and in added a win more in the 2018 edition having won a couple of their 5.
Thailand plays Bangladesh on the 1st of October in the curtain raiser, they then play Sri Lanka on the 4th of October, Pakistan on the 6th of October, the United Arab Emirates on the 7th of October and conclude their league stage games playing Malaysia and India on the 9th and 10th of October respectively.
After a few years of absences, it is the return of the women’s Asia Cup that India has dominated over the years. The 2022 upcoming edition of the women’s Asia Cup is all set to be played from the 1st to the 15th of October at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and Sylhet Outer Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh.
Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC’s) President, Mr Jay Shah stated, “For the first time in the history, 7 women’s teams will be participating in a complete round robin format which we anticipate will be a great boost to the ACC associate teams. We are also very pleased to note that the tournament will be conducted in line with ACC’s vision for women’s cricket. The ACC, with this vision in mind, is constantly striving toward being more inclusive.
“The 2022 edition of the Women’s Asia Cup will therefore see more embedded female participation. For the first time ever, an ACC tournament will see an all-female presence on the playing field, with the women’s tournament being slated to have only female umpires and female match referees. As an organization, we hope to continue to take steps to strengthen the sport by highlighting female talent in every avenue.”
The tournament will see 7 teams contests in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, UAE and hosts Bangladesh feature during the league. It also has been understood that all visiting teams are scheduled to touchdown in Bangladesh on the 27 and 28th of September.
