England’s 22-year-old batting all-rounder Alice Capsey has signed a one-year deal with the Sydney Sixers for the 12th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL|12), running from 29 October to 5 December 2026, bringing proven power-hitting and wicket-taking flair to a side that finished 2nd on the points table with their campaign ending into the challenger courtesy of their 11-run defeat against the Perth Scorchers in the previous edition.
The Sydney Sixers, led by captain Ashleigh Gardner, ended WBBL 11 in strong form, finishing second on the points table with 13 points from 10 league games, six wins, three losses and one washout, before falling 11 runs short to the Perth Scorchers in the Challenger at North Sydney on 11 December 2025. With Alyssa Healy’s retirement last summer leaving a notable gap in the batting order, the Sixers have targeted Capsey as a dynamic middle-order option who can also contribute crucial overs.
General Manager Rachael Haynes highlighted Capsey’s match-defining potential: “Alice is one of the most exciting young players in world cricket, and we’re thrilled to welcome her to the Sydney Sixers. Alice Capsey made her WBBL debut on 15 October 2022 against the Brisbane Heat at Mackay and has since featured for the Melbourne Stars and, more recently, the Melbourne Renegades, including a move to the Renegades for WBBL 10 in 2024. Across 46 WBBL matches, she has scored 784 runs at a strike rate of 118.42 and an average of 19.12 in 44 innings, including two half-centuries, while also taking 43 wickets at 18.81 with an economy of 7.29 in 43 innings, highlighted by a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul.
Her most recent season underlined her all-round value: in WBBL 11 (2025), playing for the Renegades, Capsey claimed 13 wickets at 10.84 with an economy of 7.05 in nine innings across 10 matches, including a four-wicket haul, and added 170 runs at 121.42 with an average of 18.88 in 10 innings.
Still only 22, the Surrey-born all-rounder has already earned 98 caps for England across formats since her 2022 debut and was part of the squad that reached the final of this year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. In T20 Internationals, she has amassed 1,053 runs including six half-centuries, complemented by stints with Birmingham Phoenix, Delhi Capitals and MI London (formerly Oval Invincibles), underlining her adaptability in high-pressure franchise environments.
Capsey emphasised the appeal of joining one of the WBBL’s most decorated franchises: “The WBBL is one of the best competitions in the world and the chance to represent a club with such a strong reputation and history is really special. I’ve loved my previous experiences playing in Australia, and I’m looking forward to returning and being part of the Sixers environment.”
Alice Capsey arrives in a Sixers lineup that already features fellow England international Sophia Dunkley and a spine of Australian stars including Gardner, Ellyse Perry, and Lauren Cheatle under new WBBL head coach Peter Clarke. Her ability to accelerate in the middle overs, finish innings, and bowl economical spin makes her an ideal partner for Gardner’s attacking captaincy as the Sixers aim to convert another strong league phase into a title.
