The fourth edition of the Asian Games women’s cricket tournament is set to begin in Japan from 17 to 22 September 2026.
With eight nations, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, and Pakistan, confirmed for the competition, the stage is set for a high-stakes showcase of T20 talent across Asia. After skipping the 2010 and 2014 editions due to scheduling conflicts, India’s women’s team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, made their Asian Games debut with a bang, clinching the gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the final in the previous edition in 2023. They will begin their defence of the gold medal with a quarter-final against hosts Japan on 17 September at 5:30 AM IST at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin.
Tournament History:
The tournament’s history is dominated by Pakistan, who clinched gold in both 2010 (Guangzhou) and 2014 (Incheon), with Bangladesh finishing as runners-up on both occasions. Japan earned bronze in 2010, while Sri Lanka took the Bronze in 2014. The 2023 Hangzhou edition saw India break Pakistan’s stranglehold, winning gold, with Sri Lanka as silver medallists and Bangladesh securing bronze. This time, with India entering as defending champions and Pakistan returning to the fold, the competition promises renewed intensity and tactical intrigue.
