In a clinical display at the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2026, Uganda Under-19 registered a dominant 10-wicket victory against Malawi Under-19 at the NTS, TCA Cricket Arena in Dar-es-Salaam.
Electing to field after winning the toss, Uganda’s bowling attack imposed immediate pressure on the Malawian opening pair. Caroline Chitsanzo made a brief attempt to set the tempo with an 8 off 6 balls, including a boundary, forming a 27-run opening stand alongside wicketkeeper Angela Lumbe. However, Mischelle Ariago provided the breakthrough in the fourth over by dismissing Chitsanzo. Sphiwe Frank joined Lumbe at 27/1, but her stay was short-lived as she managed just 1 off 5 balls before being caught by Devine Nyamer off Player of the Match Sarah Tino at 30/2.
The middle order crumbled rapidly under relentless pressure. Shavoni Akileni (4 off 7 balls, 1 four) became Nyamer’s first victim at 35/3, bringing an end to her brief stand with Lumbe. Lumbe, who fought resiliently for her team-high 17 off 43 balls (2 fours), fell shortly after at 35/4, bowled by Tino. Tino struck again on the very next ball to remove skipper Favour Piliyesi for a golden duck at 35/5. Stella Kunje attempted to stem the tide with a patient 2 off 11 balls alongside Milcah Savala, but Kunje was caught off Sheirah Namagoba at 39/6.
Namagoba then bowled Savala (2 off 11 balls) at 41/7. The tail failed to resist as Christina Kabambe (1 off 1 ball) was run out at 41/8, Wezzie Cheke (0 off 1 ball) fell to Namagoba at 41/9, and Bridget Kasinja (1 off 7 balls) was caught off Nyamer at 44/10 in the 16th over. Rachel Zamapemba remained unbeaten on 2 off 3 balls.
Uganda’s bowling performances were spearheaded by Sarah Tino, who claimed 3/7 in 4 overs (including two maidens), and Devine Nyamer, who matched her with identical figures of 3/7 in 4 overs. Sheirah Namagoba delivered an exceptionally economical spell, taking 2/2 in 2 overs (one maiden), while Mischelle Ariago chipped in with 1/11 in 4 overs (one maiden). Irene Mutoni (0/7 in 1 over) and Asha Mukite (0/10 in 1 over) provided brief support to keep the opposition restricted.
Chasing a modest target of 45 runs, Uganda Under-19 made light work of the chase through a flawless opening partnership. Captain and wicketkeeper Jimla Muhamed anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 12 off 24 balls, striking two boundaries. At the other end, Gilingish Nabulime played an aggressive knock, scoring an unbeaten 30 off 21 balls at a strike rate of 142.85, highlighted by four boundaries and a maximum. Their unbroken 46-run stand wrapped up the match in just 7.3 overs.
Malawi’s bowlers struggled to stem the run flow. Skipper Favour Piliyesi bowled a disciplined spell of 0/15 in 4 overs, while Bridget Kasinja conceded 21 runs without taking a wicket in her 2.3 overs. Wezzie Cheke was brought on for a single over, giving away 10 runs as Uganda completed an effortless 10-wicket victory.
