Derni Bangi’s Four-Fer Powers Indonesia Women to Dominant Victory Over Kuwait

Indonesia Women continued their impressive run in the ACC Women’s Premier Cup 2026 with a dominant 10-wicket victory over Kuwait Women in Group C action at Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. A clinical bowling display, led by Derni Bangi’s outstanding four-wicket haul, restricted Kuwait to a modest 60 for 9 before Indonesia’s openers completed the chase without losing a wicket and with 67 balls to spare.

After being put into bat, Kuwait showed early signs of resistance through openers Priyada Murali and Siobhan Gomez. The pair negotiated the new ball cautiously and stitched together a 37-run opening partnership, which ultimately proved to be Kuwait’s highest stand of the innings. Gomez looked the most assured batter at the crease, striking three boundaries in her 20-ball 23, while Murali occupied the crease for 28 deliveries only to score 13. At 37 without loss, Kuwait appeared well placed to build towards a competitive total. However, Indonesia’s bowlers had other ideas.

The breakthrough came in the eighth over when Sang Maypriani dismissed Gomez, opening the door for a dramatic collapse. From that point onward, Kuwait struggled to find any momentum against a disciplined and highly effective Indonesian spin attack.

The star of the innings was undoubtedly Derni Bangi. The spinner produced a remarkable spell of 4/5 from her four overs, conceding runs at just 1.25 per over while bowling two maidens. Bangi ripped through Kuwait’s middle order, removing Zeefa Jilani, Priyada Murali, Suchitha Lita D Sa and Balasubramani Shanti to leave the batting side in complete disarray.

Ni Ariani complemented Bangi perfectly from the opposite end. Her figures of 3/11 from 4 overs further tightened Indonesia’s grip on the contest as she accounted for Maryam Omar, Venora D’Souza and Mariamma Hyder. Together, Bangi and Ariani claimed seven wickets while conceding only 16 runs, a spell of bowling that effectively decided the outcome of the match.

Kuwait’s batting collapse was stark. After reaching 50 for 3, they lost six wickets for just ten runs and managed only 23 runs across their final 12 overs. None of the lower-order batters could provide meaningful support as Indonesia’s bowlers consistently hit their lines and lengths. By the end of the innings, Kuwait had posted just 60-9, a total that always looked unlikely to challenge Indonesia’s batting lineup.

Chasing a target of 61, Indonesia approached the task with confidence and authority. Openers Rahmawati Pangestuti and Desi Wulandari never allowed Kuwait a glimpse back into the contest, putting together an unbeaten partnership that carried their side all the way to victory.

Rahmawati was the aggressor from the outset, striking five boundaries in a fluent 36 not out from only 22 deliveries. She scored freely through the off side and punished anything short, ensuring the required rate remained comfortably under control.

Wulandari played an equally important supporting role. The right-hander remained unbeaten on 25(31) and struck four boundaries during a composed innings that allowed her partner to play with greater freedom. Their contrasting approaches blended perfectly as Indonesia steadily closed in on the target.

The winning runs arrived in the ninth over, sealing one of the most comprehensive victories of the tournament so far. Beyond the margin of victory, Indonesia will be particularly pleased with the manner in which every department contributed. Their bowlers dominated the middle overs, their fielders backed up the effort with sharp work in the field, and their openers ensured there would be no surprises in the chase. Indonesia have now won two consecutive matches giving them a big plus to advance to the later stages of the tournament.
