Aaliyah Alleyne is a Barbadian bowling all-rounder whose route into professional cricket was far from conventional. Unlike many international cricketers, she did not take the sport seriously until her late teens, having initially focused more on football. After being encouraged to attend local cricket trials, she quickly impressed with her athleticism, pace bowling and competitive mindset. Strong performances in regional tournaments such as the Women’s Championship and T20 Blaze brought her to the attention of Cricket West Indies selectors and earned her a place among the region’s emerging talents.

Aaliyah Alleyne’s International Career

Alleyne made both her ODI and T20I debuts against India in 2019 and was rapidly promoted into West Indies’ squad for the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup. Since then, she has become a dependable squad player capable of contributing with both bat and ball. Although primarily selected for her seam bowling, Alleyne has also provided valuable lower-order runs and athletic fielding.

Alleyne has featured in 61 T20Is, scoring 368 runs and taking 18 wickets. While her bowling numbers do not fully reflect her influence, she has often been used in supporting roles across different phases of the innings. Her highest T20I score is 49 not out, demonstrating her ability to contribute useful runs down the order when required. One of her early international highlights came against England in 2020, when she removed both Danni Wyatt and Natalie Sciver-Brunt in an impressive spell of 2 for 25.

Alleyne’s strongest T20 performances have arguably come in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League with Barbados Royals. Across 18 WCPL matches, she has claimed 15 wickets, including a standout 2024 campaign in which she took 9 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 11.33. Her career-best T20 figures of 4 for 21 also came during that tournament, helping Barbados Royals secure another title.

Alleyne offers valuable depth as a pace-bowling all-rounder. While she may not always headline scorecards, her versatility allows her to fill multiple roles within the side. The seam-friendly conditions in England could play to her strengths, giving West Indies a useful bowling option who can also provide important runs lower down the order when needed.
