Surrey Women were asked to bat first and endured an early setback when captain Bryony Smith departed for 4, caught by Georgia Adams off Bex Tyson with the score at 12. However, the innings gained momentum through a valuable 39-run second-wicket partnership between Alice Davidson-Richards and Laura Harris. Harris injected urgency into the innings with a blistering 25 from just 12 balls, striking four boundaries and a six at a strike rate exceeding 200 before Amanda-Jade Wellington broke the stand. Davidson-Richards continued to anchor the innings and added another 10 runs alongside Kira Chathli before Chathli was dismissed for 4, leaving Surrey at 61/3.

The middle overs saw Hampshire Women tighten their grip through disciplined bowling. Jemima Spence managed only 1 before becoming Wellington’s second victim, while Paige Scholfield struggled for fluency during her 14-ball stay and fell for 4 to Naomi Dattani. Despite the wickets, Davidson-Richards remained the backbone of the innings. She stitched together a useful 22-run partnership with Alice Monaghan, who contributed 21 from 21 deliveries. Their stand helped Surrey rebuild from 65/4 to 87/6 before Davidson-Richards’ excellent knock ended via a run-out for 40 off 38 balls, including four fours and a six.

The latter stages of the innings became a battle between Surrey’s lower order and Hampshire’s bowlers. Kalea Moore chipped in with 12, while Ryana MacDonald-Gay added 3. The final overs produced several run-outs as Hampshire maintained relentless pressure in the field. Bethan Miles scored 1, Danielle Gregory remained unbeaten on 1, and Surrey closed on 121 all but one wicket down in their allotted 20 overs. For Hampshire, Amanda-Jade Wellington delivered a decisive spell of 3 for 25 from four overs, accounting for Laura Harris, Jemima Spence and Alice Monaghan. Bex Tyson claimed 2 for 34, while Naomi Dattani finished with 1 for 21 from her four overs. Georgia Adams and the fielders contributed significantly through multiple run-outs that prevented Surrey from pushing beyond the 120-mark.

Chasing 122, Hampshire Women endured a shaky beginning. Ella McCaughan was removed for 1 by Ryana MacDonald-Gay at 6/1 before Maia Bouchier and captain Georgia Adams steadied the innings with a 14-run stand. Bouchier struck a boundary during her 10-run contribution before becoming Alice Monaghan’s victim at 20/2. Georgia Adams then attempted to control the chase alongside Francesca Sweet, but Surrey’s bowlers continued to strike regularly. Sweet fell for 1, and Hampshire slipped to 22/3.

The defining partnership of the chase came through Adams and Naomi Dattani. Together they added 11 runs before Dattani was run out for 10. Adams battled hard for her 30 from 32 balls, but when Danielle Gregory dismissed her at 73/5, Surrey sensed an opening. Hampshire, however, found a counterattack through Nancy Harman. Her explosive 43 from just 26 deliveries, featuring three fours and a six, transformed the chase. Harman and Dattani had earlier added 29 runs, and Harman then shared a crucial 42-run partnership with wicketkeeper Rhianna Southby. Southby’s composed 17 from 14 balls ensured Hampshire remained in touch with the target heading into the closing overs.

The contest reached fever pitch during the final stages. Harman’s dismissal at 115/6 left Hampshire needing seven runs from the final over. Southby continued fighting but was run out for 17 on the penultimate ball. Amanda-Jade Wellington managed only 1 before another run-out, leaving Hampshire requiring one run from the final delivery. Abi Norgrove faced the last ball but could not score, and Hampshire finished on 121/8, resulting in a remarkable tie.

Surrey’s bowling effort was built around collective contributions rather than one dominant spell. Ryana MacDonald-Gay returned excellent figures of 2 for 20, removing McCaughan and Francesca Sweet. Alice Monaghan claimed 1 for 19, Kalea Moore picked up 1 for 24, and Danielle Gregory struck the vital wicket of Georgia Adams despite conceding 30 runs. Bethan Miles bowled economically with 0 for 23, while Surrey’s sharp fielding produced three run-outs that ultimately proved just as important as wickets taken with the ball.
