WPL 2025: Complete List of Retentions and Releases: All 5 Franchise – MI, DC, RCB, UPW, GG

Ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL), all five teams—Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, and Gujarat Giants—have finalized their retentions and releases as they shape their squads for the third season, which is most likely scheduled for February-March 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had initially set an October 15 deadline for WPL franchises to submit their retentions and releases list but later extended it to November 7, 2024. On the D-day, without any surprises, the teams have announced their picks.

Mumbai Indians retentions and releases:

Retained – Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Amandeep Kaur, Amanjot Kaur, Amelia Kerr, Chloe Tryon, Hayley Matthews, Jintimani Kalita, Keerthana B, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Pooja Vastrakar, Saika Ishaque, Sajana Sajeevan, Shabnim Ismail, Yastika Bhatia

Released – Humairaa Kaazi, Fatima Jaffer, Issy Wong, Priyanka Bala

Royal Challengers Bengaluru retentions and releases:

Retained – Smriti Mandhana (C), Sabbineni Meghana, Richa Ghosh, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Sobhana, Sophie Devine, Renuka Singh, Sophie Molineux, Ekta Bisht, Kate Cross, Kanika Ahuja, Danni Wyatt-Hodge (traded from UP Warriorz)

Ahead of the 2025 WPL season, the franchises will next participate in a mini-auction, with the date yet to be confirmed. At this auction, teams will finalize their squads of 18 players, including 6 overseas slots. Mumbai Indians have 4 slots (2.65 Cr) available, Delhi Capitals 4 (2.50 Cr), Royal Challengers Bengaluru 4 (3.25 Cr), UP Warriorz 3 (3.90 Cr), and Gujarat Giants 4 (4.40 Cr), to be filled through the mini-auction.

In its two seasons so far, the WPL has crowned a new champion each year. The inaugural champions, Mumbai Indians, lost their Eliminator last season, while Delhi Capitals lost their second straight Final, this time to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who made a remarkable comeback after finishing 4th in the first season. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants are still striving to showcase their best performances.
