South African All-Rounder Chloe Tryon Joins Melbourne Renegades Ahead of WBBL 12 Season

Melbourne Renegades have added serious firepower and experience to their Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 12 squad by signing South African all-rounder Chloe Tryon for the upcoming 12th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League, which will run from 29 October to 5 December 2026. The 32-year-old’s arrival gives Sophie Molineux’s side a proven match-winner with the bat, a handy left-arm spin option and a wealth of T20 experience as the Renegades look to convert promise into a stronger finals push.

Chloe Tryon is one of the most recognisable figures in women’s cricket, having spent more than 15 years at the international level. She made her South Africa debut as a 16-year-old in 2010 and immediately announced herself by taking two wickets in her first over, including one with her very first ball, a feat no other woman had achieved in a Women’s T20 World Cup match.

Her international record underlines why the Renegades have moved for her. Tryon has amassed more than 3,800 international runs and taken over 100 wickets across ODI and T20I cricket, offering the rare combination of explosive middle-order hitting and useful left-arm spin. She was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month in May 2025 after becoming the first woman in ODI history to score a half-century and claim a hat-trick in the same match, a performance that captured her ability to shape a game with both bat and ball.

Tryon is also no stranger to Australian conditions or the WBBL stage. She has featured in 57 matches for three clubs, Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers, scoring 869 runs at a strike rate of 128.17, including 32 sixes, while claiming 21 wickets at a best of 3 for 2. Those numbers point to a player capable of changing the momentum of a match in a handful of deliveries.

Melbourne Renegades WBBL Head Coach Gavan Twining believes Tryon’s versatility will be particularly valuable to the squad. “Chloe is a genuine match-winner who has performed on the biggest stages in world cricket, and we’ve seen first-hand what she can do in the Women’s Big Bash. Her power at the back end of an innings and her left-arm spin give us real flexibility, and her experience will be valuable for our group. We’re thrilled to have her in red this summer,” Twining said.

The Renegades will be eager for a more consistent campaign after finishing fifth in WBBL 11 in 2025. Led by Sophie Molineux, they collected 10 points from 10 league games, recording five wins and five defeats. While that return kept them in contention, the addition of Tryon strengthens a squad already featuring influential overseas talent in West Indies stars Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews, alongside Australian internationals including Georgia Wareham, Tayla Vlaeminck and Nicole Faltum.

Tryon’s presence should give the Renegades greater depth in the middle order, where her ability to clear the boundary can ease pressure on the top order. Her left-arm spin also provides Molineux with another tactical option, particularly on pitches where control through the middle overs becomes decisive.

Melbourne Renegades will open their WBBL 12 campaign against Sydney Thunder on 29 October 2026 at the Junction Oval in Melbourne, with the match beginning at 10:10 AM IST. For a side aiming to climb from the middle of the table into genuine title contention, Tryon’s arrival is a statement signing, and one that could prove decisive in the tightest moments of the season.
